Re: best sushi in South beach!
Planet Sushi is a good find! It's inexpensive, cool decor, cute waiters and has locations in Tokyo and Paris as well. You can even see the guys making your rolls on a big screen tv if you don't sit at the bar. It's good for take out..and their veg fried rice is addictive! Plus they deliver..
I think the most famous sushi place is Nobu at the Shore Club..but it's super expensive. I'm not even sure they're doing Miami Spice. My favorite is Sushi Samba-great dishes, a dj, and a fun atmosphere on Lincoln Rd..it has a Brazilian twist so that makes it more interesting than the usual Japanese menu.

Blue Sea at the Delano does great sushi too, and it's a little bit more casual than their other restaurants when you just want a relaxing dinner.

For low cost, but still very reasonable sushi. I like Iron Sushi, just 2-3 doors south of Planet Sushi (which is a great place)!

I have to disagree with Christy about Planet Sushi. I thought it was overpriced and skimpy. All image and no substance.
Iron sushi is great for cheap sushi, but it doesn't look much different than the kind you would buy in a supermarket. Just fresher.

The sushi bar at Wild Oats aka Whole Foods is pretty good. Actually, there's one at super Publix too.

Haven't had many samples of sushi in SoBe, but sharing that long table at the Delano was pretty damn good.

For going out to dinner in sobe that place is as cheap as it can get. The rolls are $5 or $6.

You can actually check out the Planet Sushi menu here. It looks like things may have come down a little since I went there. Maybe because of the economy? It wasn't so long ago, though, that you could buy a pair of salmon sushi at many sushi joints for about $2.50. It's nearly doubled now, at least on this menu.

I used to go to this place fairly often, and I notice their prices have gone up!

Planet Sushi may now be the best bargain outside Iron Sushi....

Cheap but really good, quick and open late: Hiros (better than Iron - we switched from there to here)
http://www.sushiexpress.com/ (10% off online ordering)
New & some different options, average prices/very fresh: Kone Sushi Lounge - right next to Fratelli
http://www.konemiami.com/ (on restaurant.com) http://www.restaurant.com/microsite.asp?rid=400098&mcn=00104376
Open late/pretty good basic stuff, little overpriced - Moshi Moshi (on idine also)
http://www.moshimoshi.us/
We like Planet Sushi but agree the portions are a little small, although fresh.
Aside from restaurant.com and idine, they have groupon type deals all the time for PS and the 3 Kone places on the beach (not sure if we're allowed to put referral links here, if anyone wants lmk) which makes it 50% off the food part of the bill.
The other 2 Kone places (King Kone and Kone Express) are below (both good - but 5th street is best IMO)

Omg...Moshi Moshi..so funny. I refuse to go there..their local cable ad is sooo cheesy. Another reason I like Planet Sushi is because they have really great noodle and rice dishes to get on the side. Their chicken teryaki bowl is pretty good too.

Well, if theres room for flexibility in your location Red Koi on Miracle Mile is fantastic! The prices are reasonable and their volcano roll is phenomenal!
