I'm slated to go in the next few weeks. I'll report back. Have you been to Komodo yet?

Yeah it's good. I mean if I were on in the "I'm going to drop $150-$200pp on dinner" mindset there are 4-5 places I'd rate higher. But it's definitely a good spot. The black cod skewers are, from what I was told, the highlight.

Do drinks aren't terrible. I think like $15-16 for cocktails. Wine was in the same range. I don't know about beers or single-liquor drinks, but my guess would be $15 or so.

I had a Lucky Buddha there, if I remember, for $8.

The food was all right, but I felt it to be uninspired and not focused enough. I'm not sure if I would go back.

I walked through the place around 10PM on a Friday...very spread out (the Palm Beach County of restaurants) and seemed more of a place for dinner...might go back for happy hour but was far more impressed with River Yacht Club--layout and drinks.

What did you think of the food at River?

With these Japanese / Asian places opening up, why not open up a Little Tokyo or a Hawker Center so we can all stop being pretentious or happily getting jipped when we decide to eat at the top of the food chain ( Asian. )

I see the commotion in Miami about these Asian places opening up and charging a median one day salary for the privilege. It's lunacy and unheard of for me. For sure Daikouya in LA's Little Tokyo, among others have spoiled me. Better than anything in Miami and on par with the cost of parking cost in DT LA. Also as custom, entire staffs at eateries in LT, close for December and travel to Tokyo to sharpen and update their culinary skills.

I like Spoon on A1A for Thai, but I reserve my Asian Smorgasbord when I hit the west coast. Miami is light years away and it comes at a price without worth.

You need lots of Asian immigrants for that, Blackford. We have few.

Sorry if I sounded pretentious. I just don't get the relevancy of being a foodie and elaborate as we all have almost similar taste buds.

Suppose I don't appreciate a out of town restaurateur introducing with his/her version of Asian fusion that doesn't compare with I'm used to.

True, Miami doesn't yet have significant number of Asians. It's inevitable, they'll come. And maybe dinning options that warrant the actual price of a meal that has no reason to be costly.

The rents are why they charge what they charge..its just too insane now. My client with a $5k/mo budget gave up looking for restaurant space with me after a year of searching. (Biscyane, Sobe, Midtown, Coral Way, Miracle Mile, Gables, etc.)

Lincoln Rd is $100/ft and design district is $130-$145/ft...that's outrageous.

It didn't seem that long ago that my wife and I would pop into the 'Off the wall' stores on Lincoln to get her a bikini because everything was $9.99 or less....now imagine a store like that next to the multi-million dollar Gap or Apple stores that just went up!

Lincoln Road is Aventura mall now, without the ac and roof.

Why didn't your client open in Kendall or Doral? Those places are STARVED (kinda pun intended) for real restaurants and horrilby underserved. Rents a lot cheaper there too, I don't understand why restaurateurs are so hung up on opening in the "sexy" areas. The real money is out west.

Probably because they can charge 5 x the price here for food and drink.
