Hi Horatio - I don't believe we have White Castle, but we do have Royal Castle. Read Carlos Miller's article about the hamburgers.

You are correct (as always!), Maria, there are NO White Castle Hamburger Stands in Florida. White Castle is family owned and only found in limited states. Carlos' wonderful article describes well, a local variant. However, be prepared, there are differences. The most striking is the absence of the 5 steam holes in the White Castle Burgers.

They have them frozen at the grocery store. I think they are great, but I have never had them fresh. I have had royal castle bugers, and they were pretty good but I thought te buns were a little on the big side for the amount of burger they held.

part of that becca is likely due to the lack of holes in the burgers thus not allowing the buns to become steamed. (seriously)

I'm pretty sure there are holes in the royal castle burgers though

WOW! I was told they do not as one might deduce from the picture in Carlos' story (above). Krystal burgers, also very similar, do not have holes and have (in my opinion) the exact same problem you mentioned with the bun.
I can't wait for my next trip to miami for some investigative reporting!
Thanks rebecca! (seriously!)

Everyone knows that White Castle is the same thing as Krystal burger. Simply put, White Castle is always a highly anticipated meal that never lives up to the expectations. Damn you, Harold and Kumar!

Daniel, I must, respectfully, but strongly disagree with you! After eating a Krystal burger, I agree it does not deliver. But, the only thing it has in common with white castle is the size of the burger.
First, and foremost, there are NO HOLES in Krystal burgers. This is key in that white castles are steamed on a bed of onions, the patty never touches the grill and gets cooked on both sides (thanks to the holes) by steam from the onions.
Second, and also VERY important the bun is steamed in the same fashion as the burger cooks. Last time I had a Krystal burger, the bun was so hard and dry, I though it was kindling for a fire!
Finally, onions and a pickle slice are the only condiments. Sure, they will add the evil ketchup with mustard as a customer service, but that's not really how its done.
As for living up to expectations, well that's a personal preference, but I get what I expect, every-time at white castle. Am I saying its the greatest burger in the world? I'll leave that categorization to the Burger Beast himself, I just get what I expect, hot, fast, unique!
ADDENDUM:Becca-Carlos and I discussed the royal castle situation, and, as of now, it appears they are a 'no-holes' establishment!

Fred, I stand corrected. I guess I should give both restaurants another chance.

Ok, we need a new Forum Section called Burgers. JK..but burgers seem to be the most popular thing to talk about.
Burger Beast,
Have you tried the Big Pink version of the Big Mac? What about the burger at Gotham Steak with parmesan truffle fries? I haven't had either..but just some ideas..
