This was one of the first things I noticed when I moved down here, the mainland natives (mostly girls) use "super" pretty much completely in place of the word "really".

Yes, non-standard can become standardized through use but "irregardless" is simply illogical: "ir-regard-less" The affixes "ir" and "less" convey the same meaning so adding them both to the same root word, counters both their intended effect. And this video is HILARIOUS!

OK, this is where I will admit that I used to pronounce Salmon with the L. Up until I was 26 and living in Europe where I met an American girl who moved in with me and became my fiancee.

That's another story altogether but she would make fun of me when I would pronounce it sal-mon, then correct me.

So I learned how to say it, never realizing it was a Miami thing.

The thing is (no, that was not intentional, that's how it came out), we grow up down here hearing it said in Spanish, which is basically the same word but with a Spanish pronunciation and the L is not silent.

That "L" is salmon drives me nuts. Makes you sound uneducated and illiterate. Much like the Miami accent itself.

I actually say "irregardless" sometimes but always follow it with "I'm aware that's not a word." Much like I say "Let me axe you something."

Who the hell decided that the L is supposed to be silent in salmon anyway? The word has Latin roots, according to the dictionary, so I'm sure the L was not always silent.

RE: the silent "l" in salmon: It is also the case in words like embalm, calm, and palm. Yet strangely enough, you don't say "sammonella" when you're talking about the bacteria! It was named after a man named Daniel Salmon who pronounced his "l".
