Sports bars for watching soccer
We are heading to South Beach on March 27th and while we are there my 'Soccer' team could potentially be playing in a quarter final game for a cup. We are staying at the Clevelander and although I know they have a sport bar I'm not sure if they show European Football, specifically the Europa League. Can anyone advise of any bars that do show European games?

Hi acky85,
Plenty of bars around South Beach show the European leagues, preferably the ones around the hotels. The hotels themselves have bars but I've never tried them. Check out The Irish Playwright, Waxy O'Connors and Finnegan's Way. I've seen rugby games ay Playwright, so I assume they must show Europa League. If anything, you'll definitely see Champions League and get a chance to cheer on FC Barcelona.
Which is yout team?

You can catch Barcaly League games all up and down South Beach and Lincoln road. You should not have trouble seeing the games. You may see some Spanish games first though.

Clarke's also, I believe, shows games.

Re: Football AKA Soccer
I support Manchester United. We got kicked out of the Champions league which considering the teams we had in our group is a massive dissapointment.
It sounds like its easier than I thought watching football in the US. Is the US starting to catch on to how great it is haha.

Ohhh they got kicked out?! My Dad is Spurs, they're doing pretty good this season I hear from him. He has already informed me of some games he HAS to watch while he visits me in February.
Anyways, when I want to watch football (Yes, football people, how is American football even named that, when you carry the ball?), I go to Waxys.

Because we take everything in the world and make it better, Jess. We're America, that's just what we do.
But no, America still as a whole cares only slightly more about soccer than we do about women's table tennis. Miami has such a large South American and Euro population, though, that it's big here. Same in any city with a lot of immigrants like New York, LA, San Diego, Dallas, etc. Go to any city in the South or the heartland and talk about soccer and you'll likely be called a Nancy Boy and laughed out of whatever bar you're in.

Re: Football AKA Soccer
Is that right lol? So Becks didnt really have that much of an impact ha.
Jess - Yeah we didnt do to well in the group stages so didnt make it through and have dropped down to the Europa League. Spurs are doing OK, 3rd in the league. I'll have to google Waxys and the others and find out where they are in relation to the Cleve.

Come on Spurs
Becks is an idiot. I always make sure to tell everyone who mentions him to me (Oh you're English! Oh you must love Beckham!) how he got sold from Man U and cheated on his wife.

Umm, not exactly. Portland and Seattle have successful MLS teams. So does Columbus , Ohio (land of gridiron lovers).
Soccer is followed by many people through cable. But this is mostly Champions League and EPL. The MLS attracts less fans, due to its lower level of play. Oddly enough, tomorrow morning FOX is going to show the Manchester United - Chelsea FC game at 10:30 AM.

Re: Football AKA Soccer
Well, it's not unpopular. I'm just saying it still rates behind 5-6 other sports in terms of mass popularity,

I got up and watched Man U and Chelsea at Waxys. Be prepared, this time it had Spanish commentary... Other than that though, they do a killer English breakfast for $11.95 and it was full of Brits watching.

Well, I mean once you've gone to an Irish bar and been subjected to a Spanish band all night, I think Spanish "football" commentary is to be expected.

That's a queer thing to say... especially considering soccer originated by kicking a skull around.

I hung out with a group of friends last December to watch Barcelona trounce Santos at the New Cafe. The game started at 5 a.m. local time, so we had partied all night before heading to the News Cafe, which is on Ocean Drive.
They even gave us our own little room and everything.

Oh that sounds good! My next game is Arsenal vs Spurs on the 26th. Haven't decided where to watch it yet, but that is a must see game.

Yeah, I mean soccer hooligans make even Raider fans look like cupcakes. That said, though, soccer still has a very sissy reputation in most of this country. Not in Miami so much. But go to Texas in a non-Mexican community and say you're a soccer player vs. a football player and see the response.
