I was arrested. Again.
I was arrested while covering the Occupy Miami encampment. I have plenty of video from the night but it seems as if they deleted the clips leading up to my arrest. I'm trying to recover them but it's not easy.
Here is the story on my blog.

Oh, man .... You're getting good at this! Even managed to slighly smile for the mug!
Seriously, how cn they just arrest you for covering an event? Sounds like another false arrest case.
Good luck with it.

Read the bottom, Jess.....resisting arrest without violence.
Well I'm impressed. A smirk in the mug shot is always a plus.

Well, I did need a head shot for my Miami Beach 411 press pass. Now I don't have to bother Mike Lamonica to take it.

Looking at this again, you just posted this to show everyone you were down to 190, didn't you?

Yeaaa, that's an i messed with a MB cop /political official's wife /significant other eating grin, if i ever saw one. You're on the MLM (make life miserable) list.
Yo Matt, like you didn't think i was going to ask, about the BK letter you mentioned the other day. I'm sure somebody would find the contents intresting /newsworthy,why else would a BK letter show up at a newsmans doorstep.? Informal gag order? I have no idea how to message you directly. (Maybe i need to upgrade.

Now you know why I'm smiling.
But the truth is, after running around with my cameras that night, then spending the night in jail where I didn't eat anything, then running around the next day trying to get all my crap back, I am now down to 185.
I strongly recommend the Jailhouse Diet for a quick five-pound loss.

I saw that, but arrested for what? For taking photos again?

Ha! That's what I was going to say! Carlos, is it illegal for them to delete parts of your video?

Carlos, if you had a laminated mb411 business card/ID hanging around your neck do you think they would have treated you differently?

Carlos, what is your version of what happened? Did you get into a confrontation with the officer, or was this completely out of left field?

Oh, sorry, in all the excitement I missed your link. I'll read your blog!

Re: I was arrested. Again.
There was no confrontation. It came completely out of left field. All the activists had been dispersed and I was left standing there with several other journalists. I asked if I could walk through the line of cops to get to my car and I was arrested.
Once I recover the deleted footage, everybody will see that this was the case.
The Miami New Times just wrote about it.

Re: I was arrested. Again.
Wow. Why do you think they singled you out for arrest, out of all the journalists?

Re: I was arrested. Again.
Yeah, I mean you were following instructions to leave, and asking how to get through them to get to your car. So they were obstructing you from leaving! Carlos, when you were asking to get to your car were you filming them? Whether it's right or wrong I could see an officer getting annoyed at that.

I actually had the camera pointed downward when I asked her if I could leave, although it was turned on. I already had so much awesome footage, so getting her on camera wasn't important for me. But I did record the audio.
It wasn't until she ordered me arrested that I lifted the camera to her face.
And I've since recovered that clip, which I turned into this still shot.

I'm a little more aggressive than most journalists. I don't mind getting in their faces with my camera. I like to be in the trenches. Or the scrums as some call it.
That's just my style, which I developed a long time ago, even before I got into video.
It leaves battle scars but it also ensures the most compelling footage or photos.
Most photojournalists, both still and video, prefer to stand back and get their footage. It's much safer that way.
So I think that one cop was a little pissed about that because she said she had her eye on me.
The other cops just ignored for the most part, although I did get shoved a couple of times, but that's just part of the game. You have to roll with the punches.
You can see my style in this video.
