Unlike what others have said, this will tilt some traffic away from Lincoln Rd, especially from tourist. We know already many are already unwilling to go to Sawgrass.
Once in awhile we'll hit up Lincoln Rd. Usually to Spris, though we've eaten at most of the places there. We don't shop there, but I'm always seeking that perfect white cotton beach shirt. I've gotten a few on that strip. It gets to be a drag when Mrs. has a need to hit one of those cheap jewelry places and I waste 30 mins of my life.
As mentioned, I don't get off on people watching.... ya, I'll look if ms hot thing strutting her stuff. That I appreciate anywhere.
The people watching I leave to my wife and mother if she's along. When mom's in town, it's usually when we hit Spris. A couple of nice light pizzas and bottles of wine, and she's giving the play by play of the comings and goings at SCORE. That's always amusing.
But will it maker a profit soon? Or soon enough to avoid shutdown? The area already has plenty of businesses and heavy traffic. Citi Center would ridiculously increase traffic. Mary Brickell Village is right there. But there's no pedestrian long walkway and I don't think Citi is panning on having one. I'm picturing Citi following the model of those shopping centers in Singapore and Malaysia that are several stories high.

Believe they're digging the hole right now for underground parking facilities.

That would be a first. How far down to the water table, ten feet?

24 ft. from st level I believe.
Lot in pase I to accomodate 3100 cars. All, of course not UG.
Mario : I think you know the overall sinister plan is to get those casinos rolling on Biscayne.
Plan B is chartering flights full of Malaysians; promising sun, youth and sex in paradise.

Wow. Both plans do not sound appealing as a resident.

Re: Changes on Lincoln Road
yeah, it seems the casino fervor has calmed down as we haven't heard much in a while. Maybe those phone pollsters who called me from getting called a lot of other people and they realized most locals don't want the damn thing in that spot.
Also would require some legislation that seems to be stalled at best.

I think all they are going to turn up in the dig is rock and water.

Partially. I'm just hoping it doesn't turn into an outdoor Dadeland.

That some Instagram magic there, northeast? between that and the colors that straight up looks like Lincoln Road Circa 1975. Except, ya know, without the street crime.

Wow looks good! Nice an bright but I wonder how it will do? South beach is hardly full of kids who would be the main customer in a candy store.

there's one in LA right? It's owned by the daughter of Ralph Lauren so I'd imagine she's not terribly worried about the risk involved. But - I also think it's geared towards adults, no? I'm thinking it will be a trendier ghirardelli, but thats just a guess.
edit: just googled imaged, it does look very kid-like. that'll be interesting to see how well this does. as long as they have lots of chocolate they'll probably do fine.

Gahh, that Candy Bar place's color scheme looks so tacky! Ghirardelli was easily ten times as classy looking.
I was in Orlando last weekend and made it a point to stop at the Ghirardelli there for some ice cream. I really miss ours! I hope Ghirardelli corporate decides to open another location around here, even if it's not on the beach.

I need to go there just to see if I imagined right, and that everything is ridiculously over priced.

It's overpriced and commercial (the one in NYC is ridic) but at least it's a fun concept (you'd be surprised how many adults gravitate there - and more so in this area probably.) It could have been another chain clothing store which would make me weep.
IMO putting an H&M is kind of the most miserable thing that could go there. Every month a little bit of special leaves and a little bit of blah comes. I would LOVE a vintage store or a family owned, coffee shop/hangout/juice and smoothie bar/snack place to give people options other than 50 Starbucks. Some old comfy couches, even a 24 hour place if permits allow - there are enough people up and about at all hours here that the $ would make sense. For the big spaces where high rent demands something corporate - even something like a Lohemanns that's commercial but has a mix of all kinds of stuff at discounted prices would be better than Forever 21 etc.
We live off Lincoln near the water and are there daily; at some of the calmer times and during the day, you can still kind of block out the commercial cr-p and enjoy the feeling/street/good places. During holidays and on weekend nights though, it's just upsetting.
