Default Terrazza chef killed by Nikki Beach bartender

This is all over the news, but not reported here yet:

Terrazza executive chef Stefano Riccioletti was struck and killed yesterday morning by a motorist in an apparent DUI hit-and-run just steps from the restaurant he helmed at the Shore Club Hotel in South Beach. Riccioletti was thrown about 30 feet onto the driveway of the Shelborne South Beach on Collins Avenue at 18th Street.

The driver was 20-year-old Karlie Tomica, a former student at Florida International University. Tomica, a self-professed "party princess," fled the scene of the accident and raced to her apartment on the 5600 block of Collins.

Good Samaritan Jairo Fuentes witnessed the accident and followed Tomica to her apartment while calling 911. He later told WPLG Local 10 that he was "screaming at her" to stop and that "she had been drinking."
    ...
The above quote is from the New Times article from Tuesday:

All the facts are not in yet, but this tragic story underscores the very real and deadly affects of alcohol abuse, which seems more rampant in Miami Beach than elsewhere. Nationwide, many more people are killed by drunk driving than by gun violence, notwithstanding the current media hysterics about assault weapons.

Oh I knew about it. I was only a few blocks away that morning, traffic was crazy.

She deserves all that is coming to her in my opinion.

I heard she was a bartender somewhere on the Beach. I hope it was Ted's.

    That sucks.

Ironic that she worked at a place built in memory of a girl slain by a DUI.

This is a horrible story, but these events seem to be so common place here in Miami seems like every other couple of days there is another DUI with a dead victim involved. This one of course is will gain notoriety since the two parties involved worked in the service industry.

If Donte Stallworth didn't serve jail time neither should she.

Woah. This girl DESERVES jail time. She knocked him 30 feet into the air, landing him in his own hotel driveway. And she kept going. The guy that followed made it clear what he was doing andshe needed to stop and she still didn't pull over. Instead she headed home and gave her car to the valet!

She described herself as a Miami party princess. Well guess what honey? Life's about to change big time.

Never seen it, but this story just really upset me. Typical South Beach girl, thinking its ok to hit drink, drive, hit someone and continue on home hoping she would get away with it.

My feelings on this are why I did not start a thread about it in the forums.

How was she a bartender if she was only 20 years old? Also, since she was drunk, the family of the deceased can sue the establishment where she was drinking.

Her life will never be the same.

    Day-um.

I was just comparing her - quite facetiously - to the pro football player who did almost the EXACT same thing to a construction worker at the entrance to the MacArthur causeway and got probation. No reason the rules should be different for him, right?

Where did she describe herself as a party princess? I'm sure she's regretting that one right about now.

Where did you get the statistics on drunk driving deaths, were you measuring for your state only? I was curious so I looked this up and provided my sources.

According to MADD (2011) there were 9,878 drunk driving related fatalities in the US (http://www.madd.org/blog/2012/decemb...tate-data.html). The most recent data I could locate quickly on gun related homocides in the US (2007) showed 25,423 (even more suicides). (data from CDC. Web-based Injury Statistics Query and Reporting System (WISQARS). Atlanta, GA: US Department of Health and Human Services, CDC; 2007. Available at http://www.cdc.gov/injury/wisqars/index.html. )

I am very sorry for the man killed, that was tragic. That was next door to the hotel I stayed at in December.

Haha. Wow. I don't know that Social Media is exactly coming back to bite her in the ass, but it'll at least make for good tabloid fodder.
