Art Basel 2016
I used to bitch about Art Basel. Not any more.
This was originally designed for billionaires and royalty from Liechtenstein, or similar. Since then, Miami as it's custom said FU and the appendages of Art Basel is probably bigger than Art Basel itself. Glad to see even Art Basel's website acknowledge the off shoots.
During the last decade, I finally accepted modern art to the point of embrasement. Thinking about coming down. It's been seven years since my last Art Basel. I'll gladly eat Uber's 40% premium to get around. What's the deal about their seaplane ?
Saw some Fidel Castro pieces previewed the last few days. Just hope the local artists don't get screwed like always and forced to move to LA. LOL ! Talking about talent ten fold over Britto.
I absolutely love this piece ....

Since I can't outbid the Estefan Foundation, will looking for scraps in Wynwood. or a Mojito or two.

The seaplane is free, but doesn't really take you anywhere. It's more like a short aerial tour that comes back to the same spot.

Re: Art Basel 2016
Art Basel has become Art Week, and the traffic is insane! Just another Miami excuse to party all week.

So, wait, the Uber seaplane doesn't get you past traffic? Whats' the point? I remember they tried the boat last year and it bombed since the weather was so bad. Anybody try the plane out?

I went with friends Sunday to the Miami Beach Convention Center and it was packed.
$55 to get in and we got there about 2PM and wasn't able to even see a fraction of it by the time it closed at 6PM.
I can't imagine how large it actually is.

No I probably will not go back to the convention center. The emerging artists section was really just too much. One of the installations was a hair brush in a microphone stand. Things like that.
Maybe I'm just not enlightened enough for modern art.
Some areas were really cool like the European block artists.
I would like to see other parts of Basel. Thanks for the restaurant recs BTW.
