Default Good Luck To Scott On His Roadtrip Across America!

This is crazy! We should throw him a going away party.

I'm leaving South Florida for a while. I'm taking a trip across the country. On my scooter. Since my scooter maxes out at 35mph (unless I'm going downhill), I can't take the interstate, obviously. And so I will be taking the long way; the shorter back roads, the long empty stretches of highway, through the cities, through the towns, through the hamlets, and through the desert.

Thanks for posting this, Coach. We should definitely throw Scott a party.

What an incredible trip he's setting out on.

What are the back roads that get you out of Florida, U.S.1?

I hope Soctt makes a Google Map of his route.

Here is a map of the walking directions from Miami Beach, FL to Los Angeles, CA. Google says it is 2,716 miles, and will take about 36 days 20 hours to walk.

Wonder how many days Scott thinks it will take on a scooter?

That might be the map I use. :) I still have a few things to wrap up. This week, I'm dedicating to finishing up shoots and whatnot. The days that follow, I'm planning on finishing up prepping for the trip. By the way, if anyone wants to buy anything, I oddly have a lot of stuff for sale (i.e, all of my personal belongings).

I've looked at different routes and I believe I could make the trip in 15 days, but it would be pushing it every day on a scooter. Plus, there's stuff I want to do along the way. (You know, get mugged, visit world's largest rubberband ball, find god, etc.) So I'd like to take 30 or more days to take the time I need.

Finding God shouldn't take more than a couple of days. Last I heard, he was in Abilene, TX. It's finding that giant rubberband ball that worries me.

I hope you'll be wearing a helmet! Remember to take safety breaks every 2 hrs! And make sure to have a first aid kit and the emergency break down flare kit! Also look up scooter repair shops on your route.

Be safe, good luck, and have fun!!

Christina! I have some awesome news! I did some googling and apparently there's a guy in Broward county working on a massive rubberband ball to beat all records. So, it looks like that part of the journey is nearly over without even leaving the door! Here's a link to the article in the Sun Sentinel. Won't be hard convincing that guy to give me a rubberband, it sounds like.

I did want to say thanks to Coach, Gus, Santana and everyone else for your support. And I'm okay with the party concept. Although, with it being a party for me, attendance might be low. But if it isn't, can we do one of those slow-clap things where one person starts really slowly but with a steady unwavering devotion and then everyone slowly joins in? Sort of like the high school dork that gained the respect and admiration of the jocks? That would be da best! I've always wanted a slow clap.

thats awesome. I love random stuff like that.

In all seriousness, I am really looking forward to reading about your journey. I am sort of obsessed with alternative travel, so I think that will be a really cool and memorable experience. Just be careful, especially as you are going through the desert. Keep a bunch of water with you! Once you get out there, how long will you stay?

I'll be updating my website throughout the trip. I'm planning on taking minimal stuff - restock on water when I need to, pack some sandwich triangles before I leave so I don't get hungry. Maybe some with cream cheese. I'm going to have to carry an extra gas can through the desert which is gonna kind of suck.

I'll be the dorkiest looking guy on the road. With saddlebags on my scooter, and a spiked helmet adorning my noggin as if I was one of Hell's Angels. On a moped. But I'll balance it out by playing Christopher Cross' Ride Like the Wind, as I whip down the roads at 30mph, slowed by the weight of everything. Or hum it. I'll be cool in my mind.

We absolutely need a send off party for the man.

Scott, can I call you Easyrider? I love road trips so it will be awesome to follow yours! Just be safe. And please, you will need more than a cupla sandwiches along the way!

    When's the farewell party?

lol. Scott, you're great. (slow clap for you)

This sounds like a movie or a short series. Forest Gump did it.... why not Scott?

I bet someone would love to film your journey! I know I would watch it if this became a reality show! Cross country journey on a scooter!

I had actually had an idea for a show called The Complex Life. Myself (spinster) and a slightly older woman (divorcée) travel across the country in a car getting into all kinds of trouble! Except that, unlike Thelma and Louise, we don't drive over a cliff.

I think Scott is going for something way more zen ...

If you only KNEW how many times Forrest has come to mind when I've pondered this trip. The only thing separating Forrest and I are a few IQ points. But not many. And I have a scooter.

Zen and the Art of Scooter Maintenance.
    Yeah no.

All of these things aside and more importantly...
I was thinking about this whole party notion. And I was thinking back to the party I had last year. I was talking to my roommate about the notion and so...

Mark your calendars: this Saturday night from 7pm until, I'm throwing a party at Chez Scott. This will be byob as I need to save my dollars for sammiches and stuff along the road. However, I promise to deliver high-quality music (provided I don't sell my stereo in the morning during my garage sale), and some excellent potato chips.

As an added bonus to a night of good fun, good company, I'm also going to be selling/giving away whatever you can find in my place that you like. Price points depend on sentimental value in conjunction with my level of inebriation.

So 7pm this Saturday. Party. Chez Scott. Northeast corner of 11th and Meridian in South Beach. Look for the Headless Buddha by the gate.

I'll bring the Bacardi 151 and $4.37. Figure I can pretty much clean Scott out with that.

Scott, I commend what you're doing.

Miami Tour Company would like to talk with you about corporate sponsorship. We'd be thrilled if you let us sponsor the trip. How far will $1,000 get you?

Classic, coach. Yes, you probably could.

Gus! What an incredibly, incredibly generous offer. I'll talk to you later today, but it would be a treat to be sponsored by Miami Tour Company. I have to say, the offer is as insane as the trip itself. Thank you, Gus, for that kind offer.

Oh Scott! I can't believe it is happening... Good luck with everything and be safe. I'm so sorry I won't be able to be at the party and wish you the best in person as I will be in Ecuador visiting my family. Take care and keep us posted of your adventures.
