Default What is up with the bad weather?

Ok, we haven't had a moan about the weather in a while... but seriously, what is going on? I haven't been on the beach properly THIS YEAR! It has been the worst winter here in 30 years apparently, does anyone know why, or more importantly, when it will end?

And have you seen the forecast tomorrow?

I know. Back in October when we had great beach days and I was not taking advantage of them much, I posted a question here.."Will it be beach weather all year round?" Everyone said yes (with the exception of a few days) and that's completely not the case. Is it climate change or just a cold year? Either way it stinks!

Well, El Nino is a mitigating factor, but the biggest is the... lemme see if I remember this... North Atlantic Circulation Patter. Essentially what happened is the cold wind from up in the North Atlantic got a little too excited this year and has been blowing cold stuff our way more than usual. El Nino tends to cause more wet weather, so that's where that came from.

The main contributing factor was a rather persistent low pressure area in the middle and upper levels of the atmosphere centered over eastern Canada and the northeast United States. A trough associated with this low extended down across much of the southeastern U.S., including Florida. This pattern was most noticeable in January and February. The result of this upper level pattern was a number of strong cold fronts moving south from the upper Midwest all the way through Florida. Air masses of Canadian and Arctic origin followed these fronts, plunging temperatures to much below normal levels for rather extended periods of time.

The Climate Prediction Center’s outlook for March through May calls for a continuation of cooler and wetter than normal conditions as El Niño continues to influence weather patterns across the Western Hemisphere. March in particular looks to be cooler than normal due to the expected persistence of this winter’s pattern of northwest flow over the eastern United States.

That says March through May... This is NOT good.

Am I ever going to get a beach day again?

This has been an unusually cold year. I honestly don't mind it. The gross hot weather will be here soon enough.

Fred - March 20 is also my mom's birthday!

Very Cool! (except for the weather as I predict)

Interestingly, it is also "Father of Fred"s Birthday, #82!

It's looking like it's going to be a permanent change. So if you're thinking about moving here, we're not even going to have nice weather anymore. Really no reason at all for you to move now. Just stay put.

All wishful thinking aside, I really am starting to feel cheated. I think Miami is probably home to a lot of people with some form of Seasonal Affective Disorder, and if you can't get away from the cold and gloom in Miami, where are you supposed to go? I may start looking for work in Honolulu.

It's been this way ever since global warming was discredited. We have to wait until global warming is back in vogue.

The cold weather doesn't mean that global warming isn't real. Warmer sea temperatures are altering global climate patterns, causing winter systems to move further south.

I am coming with you. In all seriousness, when the whole 'I'm moving to America' idea popped into my head it was between Hawaii and Florida. Miami won. So please Florida, can you become the Sunshine State again?

BTW people who are reading this from out of state... It's raining here. My little weather map in the opening post was 100% accurate

Are we living in the same city? It's rainy today, but there have been some positively glorious blue-sky and comfortable weather days in the last month or so. I don't think those snowbirds with thick blood will really mind the cooler surf and I find it so refreshing to be able to walk outside and not sweat.

I'll give you that one, Wednesday was the one good day we've had in ages.

Of course, I was at work

Ahahahaha! A point on which Matt & I wholeheartedly agree!

I mean, I always use the alligators, giant mosquitoes and hurricanes, but that hasn't worked out so well. Can we change the nickname to "The Grey and Rainy State" now?

I moved here for the hot weather! This is nonsense. I can get this kind of weather in places with WAY lower rent.

On a recent shopping day out with my girls, we came across a T shirt that said:

"Sunkissed, surf style, Florida girl" with a picture of an Orange next to it... But then underneath it then said...

" So what's a few sharks, hurricanes, alligators, and mosquitos between friends"

I thought it was so perfect! And we all bought it

I bought my place in November, moved down for the winter in December. I have a huge case of Seasonal Affective Disorder. And what did the price of my condo get me? Cold, wind and rain. *sigh*
