Yes, that's real. Its at Alton and about 23rd/24th street. They just changed it yesterday. I already sent it to my family in Orlando to laugh at us....

Did you mean laugh at it being 2 years, because clearly it'll be more? Or laugh because people can't spell en ingles?

I have lived in a few places aside from Miami, and I think it is really funny how simple road work that might take 2 months in another city or state seems to take 8 months or more in Miami. Seems like ever city projects run on Cuban time down here.

Begies. Which means "veggies" but with the Cuban "b" sound instead of "b".

Like the old joke, what's a Cuban's favorite car?

    I have a new one!!

this is a newly listed 1 bedroom loft at Neo Vertika..He starts the first sentence with:

YUPPY BUILDING, LOFT STYLE READY FOR OCCUPANCY.

Wow...I don't think I'd advertise my client's building with that term!

Dude...you totally need to start a blog of these jacked up listings.

"Miami Real Estate Mensa Chapter" or something.

Where I come from, the word Yuppy isn't a bad term. It stands for Young, Urban, Professional. So I'd think awesome, a bunch of young professionals live there.

Yuppy/Yuppie does technically stand for "Young Urban Professional", but it has undertaken a negative connotation beyond just young, urban, and professional. It has taken on the connotation that those in that group only pursue material gain, and are kinda douchey, in general.

Another issue is that real estate agent who listed it is possibly risking a Fair Housing violation slap-down because of the age reference. I don't know how strict enforcement is in FL, but up here in northern VA in the DC 'burbs, that listing description could get you fined. They're pretty strict here. We can't advertise that a certain building or area is good for a certain age range (unless it is a designated "active adult" 55+ community.)

Other stuff we can't refer to include: race, color, sex, national origin, religion, familial status, handicap status, or age. Most of those are under a national fair housing act. Virginia adds in age. DC adds in sexual orientation, as well.

Some of these like race, religion, handicap status, etc. make a lot of sense. But some, like "familial status", are ridiculous. We can't advertise that a certain neighborhood or building is "good for families" or "great for singles". That part of the law is goofy, but we're forced to follow it.

An example of an obvious Fair Housing violation would be something like, "Great young Cuban neighborhood." ... or "Excellent white neighborhood."

I think you are right Jess...I saw the old listing for this building and he started it off with 'Young Professional building'..

But like Glenn said, it does have a negative connotation as the word yuppie is more of a Wanna-be High Class, Sipping cocktails with your pinky in the air at the polo club. (Think Dan Akroyd from Trading Places)

They should get a violation from the Fair Housing..these people violate it all the time.

The best is when they say "Safe Area"...Do you know what happens if you get robbed there? You can sue the Realtor for telling you its safe!

Doesn't "safe" generally mean "white" anyway?

You gotta be handy with the steel, if you know what I mean. Earn your keep.

I'm a big fan of West Helm. Had some clutch hits for the Marlins the past few years. And a real clubhouse leader. So cool they're selling his furniture.
