Watch "Avatar" at Soundscape Movie Night on March 16
Next week! Avatar is the first film.
I did some tweaking with the sound this week and I think it's going to be spectacular.

Sounds like fun... Can you please tell us a little more about Soundscape Movie Night, and what tweaked Avatar audio can we expect to hear?

Gus,
I should clarify "tweaking". The Soundscape sound system is roughly 167 speakers. It's basically a big surround system setup mainly for NWS performances, Wallcasts, but can be used for other events if needed. One of the scheduled events that uses the system is Miami Beach Movie nights.
However, in order for any movie with surround audio to sound "correct", the system has to be programmed and slightly tuned. In a normal home setup, you have 6 speakers for 5.1. In the park, you have zones that can act as the 6 speakers in a home system, but there is far more flexibility to create a better sonic atmosphere.
I've been spending my free time going out to the park and listening to the system with just the audio from Avatar. I think I have the right settings now, but only the audience will be able to tell me if what I did sounds good.

Wow! I didn't realize this was regarding the outdoor screening facility at New World Symphony. I was under the impression the space was only going to be used to broadcasting the symphony performances
Will you be screening more movies?
Is there a Soundscape calender of events?
We'd love to help you spread the word.

I am glad this is starting. I want to go to the Wednesday night events. But I don't quite understand where it is? Is it where the big metal things are? Also, on the nws website I couldn't find the info... I feel I am missing something.

For movie night, no idea. Weds will be the first one. If our Wallcast is any indication of how packed it will be, I expect about 1000 people. I think our last wallcast was around 2000.
People bring chairs, blankets, wine, picnic baskets, tables, and candles to our show. My guess it'll be the same for movie night.
We had 2 couples show up at 3pm for a 730 Wallcast show.

Oh good lord, 3:30?! Miami time in reverse!
Can it seat that many?

Depends on your definition of "seat". I think about 1000-1500 people can fit comfortably in the prime listening area. That's a rough guess though.
During our last show, the were people in the prime listening area and on the outer edges as well.

Well, I'd say look out for me, but amongst 1500 people you've got no chance!

I am looking forward to this. My friend and I was just talking about this last week because she hasn't seen it yet on the big screen.

If you're facing the wall, I'll be in the back right corner next to the metal speaker structure.
I have to babysit the first movie night to make sure nothing goes wrong with the audio system.
