Default "Why Vegas kicks Miami's ass in electronic dance music"

I'm not much of an electronic dance music fan, haven't dropped that much ecstasy to convert me, but I came across this article where some chick out west is saying Vegas is replacing Miami as the electronic music capital of the United States.

    Wondered what you guys thought.

From someone who has gone out in Miami about 7 times total, and has been to Vegas about nine hundred and fifty thousand times total ... i would wholeheartedly disagree.

Vegas mixes up hip hop and electronic in 99% of its music. There is no more electronic music scene in the USA than Miami. And ive only gone out 7 times here. Its that obvious. Vegas is not an electronic music town, as of last weekend when I went yet again.

Note: The article seems to be babbling about everything except the music. Meeting international people. The club quality, etc. Agreed on that part of it. Vegas blows away Miami as far as tourists. Any given night 99% of the people in the club are not from Vegas. Secondly, the quality of the clubs in Vegas blows away pretty much anywhere in the world. Vegas has countless Mega-Clubs and to date, nothing compares to Club XS (Wynn/Encore) and several others. The closest Miami could ever dream of coming is LIV and when I first walked into LIV it seemed like a cute attempt at a Vegas club, at best. Miami clubs are open *MUCH* later than anywhere else in the country and that makes the "fun" aspect way higher in Miami, not to mention the incredible house/electronic after hours strip clubs like Scarletts which top off an evening quite well. But all that has nothing to do with the *prevalence* of electronic in the two cities. Miami is still Electronic central, in my E-ridden opinion.

This quote below is very true, and I noticed the difference last week. Truly, I did not see any sign of the Music Conference going on.

But this year’s splitting of WMC and Ultra Music Week threw people like me for a loop, and rather than deciding between them, I decided to forgo both.
And this is a great observation:

People are in Miami for the party, and while it’s a great one, Vegas has plenty of its own. With scheduled larger acts in electronic music LAX hosted Sharam’s new residency and Hard Rock featured TiŽsto’s monthly stop
... yeah that's very nice... kind of like Ibiza when the big boys have a residency. Miami has yet to secure this.

    But this...

With scheduled larger acts in electronic music and all other genres scheduled for 2012 [and] with Las Vegas’ amenities and amazing venues, and now with the world’s best DJs and artists performing here, Miami cannot, and will never, compete.
... is a load of crap!

There is no competition, the two places are entirely different. If I wanted a overbuilt soulless place to party, yeah it would be Vegas. And as they say, Liv is a cute but failed attempt to re create a Vegas club. But Miami is the life and soul of the party and we're not trying to compete with anyone. We don't need to

There was and has been and may currently be talk of moving WMC to Vegas. I don't know that it's that far off, actually, considering Miami's moving away from giant dance clubs and focusing on exclusive Ultra Lounges (Thanks a LOT, Opium Group!!!!).

But in terms of good clubs and nightlife, yeah, Vegas blows Miami out of the water now. There's not even a comparison. You can actually get IN to the nicer places, the music is better, the DJs are better. Everyone I know who goes out there regularaly, including a friend who's there now, says it's better.

Miami is a much better place to "be" though. Like, yeah, ok, our nightlife isn't what it once was. But we still have the beach and tropical breezes and other stuff to do besides party and gamble. And the weather here is better.

But if you're just talking nightlife (and restaurants too) yeah, Vegas hands down.

When I first got the urge to move to Miami, I remember seeing the turquoise water in my mind, with the sound of trance music. What was weird that I didn't even know at that time that Miami was such a hub of trance music. I just innately sensed that they went together. To me, the colors and energy of Miami, like the sound of trance music, are ways of expanding your consciousness. And when I think of Vegas, I just think of boob jobs, casinos and Wayne Newton.

When I think of Vegas, I think casinos, 70s' cadillacs, holes in the desert, and of course, boob jobs.

Eh. I've been to Vegas, more than once. It's fun and all... but Miami wins for me, hands down.

What we need to do is to legalize gambling in Dade and make the strip between Gansevort and Haulover a chain of ocean-front casino/hotels.

Then nobody will go to the middle of the desert; instead they'll all come to Miami and we can finally shut the Vegas people up!

Oh my God, 1776, that would make this place AWFUL. Part of why Miami is better is that it's not a giant, crowded tourist feel everywhere in the Entire beach. You can escape the insanity if you want. Could you IMAGINE the Vegas strip replaceing the quiet, residential areas between 25th and Haulover? I live in that area, def. don't want to see that.

Not something we want or need here at ALL.

I lived in Vegas for two years and those two years I couldn't find a decent edm scene. The clubs are all hip hop except maybe drake after-hours. Maybe now they are starting to get some big names, but there is no comparison to Miami. The vibe there sucks.
