In 1946 the historic building first served as the winter White House of President Harry S. Truman and a site for the Cold War response by later presidents. Today, the Truman Little White House is a public, living museum as well as a retreat and place of government business by our nation's leaders.

    Default Pierre's in Islamorada

Just one more picture. This is the view from Pierre's in Islamorada. It shares a beach with Morada Bay, right next door. Certainly worth a little day trip from Miami. Pierre's is upscale; Morada Bay is more casual.

I hear they have an excellent full moon party, but I haven't attended yet.

I HAVE to check this out.

I don't know if it's like Koh Phangan ... but it wouldn't hurt to investigate in the name of research!

What's a full moon party? Do you have that in Miami or only in the Keys?

Hey Lizy! The only full moon parties I know of in Miami are the ones Carlos Miller wrote about: Miami Drummers Celebrate at the Full Moon Party - Miami Beach 411

These are kind of ad-hoc and grassroots.

    The full moon party at Morada Bay is actually held at a restaurant and seems like a really fun celebration: there's live music, dancing etc ;

At long last, my stories are coming out. Here's a fabulous one day (or less!) thing to do in the Florida Keys. It's definitely my favorite romantic spot in South Florida: sex and the beach: Romancing the Florida Keys: Dinner at Pierre's

The Ritz Carlton does a full moon party with drink specials and telescopes you can use. Very low key..

At long last! My final recap of that August trip: sex and the beach: Travel: Romancing the Florida Keys: Key West

I'm doing a Trail of the Pirates road trip starting on Monday. Part of it will be in the Keys. Stay tuned! I'll be driving from Key West to St. Augustine. I'll start a new thread about that.

    Cheers and ahoy, maties!

I'm reviving this thread after a recent trip to the Keys for an event I hosted. Read more about my Florida Keys favorites here: http://sexandthebeach.blogspot.com/2...favorites.html

I absolutely loved the Eden House. Great little hotel if you should decide to spend the night in Key West.

I'm still upset that my squatter tweet didn't get recognition at #sxse @miamibeach411 found it worthy of a retweet.

Just kidding Maria but it may be nice to have a new category for next year on your blog.

You, Echols and the gang made me feel I was there.

Awww, Blackford, which tweet was that?

I was referring specifically to people who said they were in Key West and part of #sxse. Did you tweet that?

Which new category do you think I should create on the blog?

I would love to do SxSe in Key West again next year. You should join us!

    Hi Maria,

Your keys adventure sounds awesome I'm going to be in Key West for 4 days in October and am really looking forward to it (key lime pie - yum!)

Where are the 'ghetto' areas of Key West by the way?

    Thanks,
    Catherine

Hi Catherine! When in October will you be in Key West? Fantasy Fest is a big deal event down there.

Will you be staying in or near the old town? There are some parts of Key West I haven't even seen much of because most of all the activity is in old town.

To the best of my knowledge, the only somewhat ghetto area of Key West is some parts of the Bahamian Village. I've also heard that Stock Island can be a little rougher but you're probably not going there.

    Hi Maria,

I'll be in Key West from October 11-15 so I think that's before Fantasy Fest. I think I'll rely on the Miami Tour Company bus to take me down there and I've already booked a flight back to Fort Lauderdale (have to meet a friend and get on Allure of The Seas cruise the next day).

I'll be staying at a central Duval St location.

Thanks again for all your helpful tips

    -Catherine

PS. I just watched 'Key Largo' - good movie.

    Hi Maria,

Do you think it's okay in the daytime to go sightseeing around Bahama Village and Stock Island?

    Thanks,
    Catherine

    Hi Catherine!

I don't think there's much to see in Stock Island, honestly. I would stick to old town in Key West. Generally speaking it's pretty safe and keep in mind the touristy part of Key West is ridiculously small so you could walk it all in one day. For the Bahamian area actually I would recommend just going to Blue Sky restaurant to eat. It has outdoor seating with roosters walking around and they are famous for their key lime pie. Although for dessert, I would save room for Better Than Sex, which is just right after you pass the gate into the Bahamian area off Duval Street.
