Default Visiting Everglades for one day - Shark Valley or Gator Park, or BOTH?

Hi, we're going to Everglades for one day and so far have planned to go to Shark Valley only. but after reading Gus' great account of his and Michelle's trip to Gator Park and their airboat ride, we'd really like to that as well. Is it possible to do both?? Are they close enough together? And if we have to pick one, which is better? Many thanks!

    Hi Bella,

Funny you should mention that! I just finished writing an article all about a recent day trip I made to Gator Park AND Shark Valley. It should be up any time now!

The short answer is that Shark Valley makes an excellent compliment to Gator Park, and is very close. Gator Park gives you a chance to see lots of wildlife and the fun of an airboat ride, without the hiking opportunities, whereas Shark Valley gives you the "walking in the wilderness" experience -- just bring lots of drinking water, because the heat sneaks up on you and there aren't any places to drink once you're out on the trails!

If you had to pick one...it would be a tough choice. I like the independence and seclusion Shark Valley offers, but the airboat ride at Gator Park is unforgettable! Admission to Shark Valley is $10 per car, and admission to Gator Park, if you buy your tickets online through miamibeach411.com, is $18/per person, and includes the 40 minute airboat ride and a half-hour wildlife show, with alligator wrestling.

Hi, bella79, when are you planning to visit? You have to see Doug's article, but I don't think it will be online until Sunday.

Do you have transportation out to the Everglades? If so, I suggest seeing both palces.

"after reading Gus' great account of his and Michelle's trip to Gator Park and their airboat ride, we'd really like to that as well."
You must be referring to when we drove out there searching for the infamous $10 airboat ride - that day was a lot of fun. Here are some pictures of Gator Park from the same trip.

Great pics, Gus! Sadly, the baby Florida panther is no longer there. I asked and they said it got too big, and they had to donate him to a sanctuary.

Yes, the baby alligator, VERY cute! Will definitely tell you all about the trip when I get back - although (and I'm slightly embarrassed now by my extreme forward planning) we're not going there until December!
