Default Cheap hotels in South Beach

Have some friends visiting South Beach this weekend. Im looking to meet up with them and grab a room of my own. Im looking on the low end, like as long as its not a crack house and I can lock the door Ill be ok. Any suggestions?

Take a look at the Tropics. I've stayed their 7 times. Great location 16th and Collins. This time a year room under $60 bucks. Rooms are clean, yet spartan.

The link is tropicshotel.com ... I could not hot link, due to not enough post.

Don't be concerned about the additional hostel accomodations, basically 4 rooms next to the check-in desk, rest of the hotel is private rooms. Ask to stay on the pool side.

Hotel seems to have a large percentage international guest.

Yes, the Tropics is a good option for low cost. Also look at Clay and Tradewinds.

If you don't mind staying mid-beach you'll find more lower cost options.

And this excellent article by Doug on staying in a hostel:

Princess Ann is super cheap, but I can't comment on whether it's a good choice. (You could always check out the reviews on tripadvisor). You might be better off in a private room at a hostel, like rk suggested.

The Clay has always been my favorite budget hotel. You can't beat the location and the Mediterranean architecture. It's not as much of a budget as it used to be, but you save on taxi rides since you're centrally located.

Also, stay away from the Claremont, same category as the Parisian.

I once stayed at the beach paradise hotel on Ocean drive.
    Very basic but clean.

LMAO speaking of the Parisian hotel I just stayed at the Geneva hotel right next door for one night a few weeks ago.....which oddly enough is actually a car/moped rental place.....and which even MORE oddly enough requires you to check in at the Parisian hotel next door....I was like WTF??

Avoid at all costs Parisian (some Mexican tourists were robbed there at gunpoint in their room in 2010), the Geneva and the Atlantic Beach hotels. I've heard bad stuff about the Santa Barbera hostel too.

I'm going on what I've heard. And that robbery was reported in the news!

@ Surinam Kid, Thanks for the info on the Claremont. I checked TripAdvisor and they had 56 terrible reviews and only 4 excellent.
