Default Hotel stay for Family of 4-reasonable prices

    Hi
My husband and I and my two girsl(18 and 15) are doing at cruise this July.
We are wanting to stay 2 extra days in South Beach after the cruise.
We do not need to stay right on the beach , but walking distance to beach, restaurants and site would be good.
We really do not want to spend more than $200 / night if possible.
    Any suggestions would be great.
    Thanks Kim

The Clay Hotel is a nice deal. I don't think they'll be much over $100 and they have a great property in a great location.

I've stayed at the Clay about half a dozen times and I can tell you its strengths and its weaknesses:

    strengths:

    - great location
    - historic building, great example of Mediterranean architecture
    - young, international crowd
    - situated adjacent to Espanola Way, one of South Beach's most beautiful streets
    - 2 blocks from the ocean
    - clean rooms
    - good rate
    - community room makes it easy to meet other travelers

    weaknesses:
    - staff can be a bit uppity (par for the course in South Beach)
    - rooms along Washington Ave have noisy street traffic until early morning hours (get an interior room or one that faces Espanola Way)
    - rooms are kind of boxy and small (inevitable with any budget hotel)

try the marriott on north collins (about 4000 north)

its the first place my family and I stayed at, its a little north of southbeach (but in miami beach) clean, reasonably priced, near resturants and right on the boardwalk.

it is the former cadalliac hotel.

July is low season, so you might be able to get a good deal at the Hilton Bentley. They have one bed suites with a pull out couch and a full sized kitchen. The only drawback is they charge extra for the beach chairs.

Hardly anyone knows about it here..... On the 1400 block of Ocean Ave, Hilton offers 1 or 2br options. There is no Hilton logo or such. Preservation league stuff disallow's it.

I've used it as day room options in the past for a World Cup day at the beach. The prices were reasonable.

That's the "Hilton Grand Vacations" place. July is definitely in low season, but the nights of July 20 and 21 are Fri annight, which brings the rates up a bit. The Hilton Grand Vacations for those dates show $269/night. The Hilton Bentley Christy mentioned shows $312/night. Those are rack rates shown on Hilton's HHonors site. ... Might get a better rate from the travel link here on MB411's site.

There is always that frugal Doug option if you don't mind showering with a stranger.

    That depends on the stranger.

Kimmer, welcome to the forums! You might want to check out airbnb.com for apartment rentals.

Oh, a friend of mine has stayed at the Indian Creek Hotel and recommends it -- just a wee bit north of all the South Beach action, but more affordable.

I would check out sunspotrentals. They had really good reviews on trip advisor. I spoke to the owner of the company Justin today and he was very nice and honest. I would also recommend to negotiate with him. He knocked off 200 dollars on my bill but I am pretty good at sweet talking .

You could also check out vbro.com. The people that post their apartments for rent are very responsive. Good Luck!
