    Default airbnb apartments

Anyone got experience with renting apartments on SoBe on airbnb? I want to rent one for 30 days next month. what should I expect to pay and are there other sites to find apartments online?

I don't have any specific experience with them, but people actually recommend them on this site all the time so I'd assume they're legit.

Yeah I found a few legit ones (I hope.)

Do you think it's worth it to stay near Sunny isles or Hallandale beach for a month vacation or should I really stay near South beach (costs more$$$ though)

Well, do you want to be in Sunny Isles or South Beach?

Sunny Isles is ten miles away, with nothing to do. Hallandale is even further. If you want to be in SoBe, then pay the extra money, as you will be in SoBe. Those other places you mention are completely different cities, and not nearby at all.

I'd like a place with a lot of locals and where there's lots of places to walk to.

That's South Beach. As I said, the others are residential places, with nothing within walking distance. Hallandale is not even in Miami county.

Alright. I see a few decent SoBe apartments on airbnb. How can I be sure they are legit though? Most have OK reviews and as far as I know they are for rent by the owner themselves. Isn't it better to rent an apt via some agency? The reason why I am interested in the Sunny Isles-Hallandale ones were because they were offered by an agency.

edit; what about north miami beach?

airbnb is like a classified service (along with many other websites of that type). You will find a mix of good and bad places advertised there. airbnb has little control over what is posted on their website by individual owners (unless someone complains). It is up to you to weed out the unreliable and misleading and find the good ones.

If you're unsure about a place, here are some obvious things to look for:

    (1) How long has the place been listed? The longer the better.
    (2) Does the price seem too good to be true?
    (3) If you email the owner, are they forthcoming with information?
    (4) Spelling mistakes are a bad sign
    (5) Is the ad trying to hide the location ("center of things", "heart of sobe", "near everything" could mean almost anything).
    (6) Asking for a lot of money up front?
    (7) Do the reviews look like they were written by the same person?

Once you discover the location, check ownership records to verify you are dealing with the actual owner. Check court records to make sure place is not being foreclosed, taxes are paid, etc. If in doubt, ask for a couple of references.

If you're leaning towards a particular place feel free to post the link to the ad and someone can help you decide.

Re. North Miami Beach, that is a separate city on the mainland, quite far from the beach. It should not be confused with "north beach" which is the northern section of Miami Beach. like the others above, I highly recommend you stay in south beach.

Here are a few additional links to help find a place (in no particular order):

The first 10 are lists of individual condo rentals like airbnb. The last 5 are local agencies that are Miami based (and which I consider reliable, or have had good reviews recently).

That was a real in depth post, rk. Thanks.

To clarify, I meant North Beach. I managed to find a decent apt for 4 weeks there for 1750$. It has good reviews. There's a bus stop in front as well.

In this area you get what you pay for, while I am sure you will save money staying further north, you will also sacrifice the South Beach experience and you will have less to do. You have to weigh out the pros and cons and see if it is worth it to you.

I have rented through AirBnb last year. The problem that I had was that the owner tried to rent an apartment for 2-3 months but according to the rules the lease had to be at least 6 months.

So when I arrived together with my friend we were suddenly meet with a contract where we had to sign for 6 months or we could just leave and find something else, which was pretty much as pointing gun to your head as we would never be able to find anything with 0 day notice for 2 months in February - March.

So we had to sign the contract.

Airbnb is a good service though, and they keep the money and only release it the owner the day after you have moved in, so you have time to complain and stop the transfer if something goes wrong. This way you at least doesn't loose your money to a scam.

That's bad. Is this ad still available? If so, could you PM me it so I can avoid it? I am going to book my apartment this week so I want to be on the lookout.

Yes I saw that she had it online again when I searched last month, but this time she had changed it to 6 month or more only.
