I would love to get an ongoing thread with pictures of locates around Miami from the past and present. If you have em or can add one to complete anyone elses post, lets see them

Hi Braskin82, welcome to the forums and thanks for starting this thread!
Are you aware we have already been discussing old lodgings on this thread: Old Motels and Photos?
Also, I run a Vintage Miami Beach group on Flickr.

Thanks alot! I love the Flicker Pictures, I could sit and look at them all day..
Just wondering if anyone viewing has any old photos of where the Loews Hotel and the St Mortiz Stands today. I know the St. Mortiz in an older property that has been incorporated into the Loews, but I would love to see some old photos of the hotel/hotels or whatever stood in the place of the current Loews hotel
Your request is answered!
There is a Flickr member whose photos, for some VERY strange reason, I can't accept into my Flickr group, and I'm still trying to figure out why.
However, you can see his incredible vintage Miami Beach photography/postcards set here.
He just so happens to have a pix of the St. Moritz.

Thanks alot! I'm trying to see what hotel was to the left of the St Mortiz, where the Main building of the Loews Hotel sits today. If anyone knows the name of the hotel or what stood there, I'd love to know!
Thanks again!
http://www.jbsmiamivice.com/sitebuil.../bns1e1p32.jpg[img][/img]Does anyone recognize this Miaimi or Miami Beach Hotel? I suspect it is on Collins Ave. by the looks of it. It was used in the Pilot of Burn Notice.
A whole bunch of photos have been posted by a new member at Vintage Miami Beach. Check them out!

I CONSIDER MYSELF A TOP HISTORIAN ONTHE SUBJECT OF MIAMI BEACH BETWEEN 1953-63.I WAS THERE 4 TIMES DURING THOSE YEARS AND I HAVE EXTENSIVE INFO OF THOSE YEARS. JUST TO GIVE YOU A LITTLE INSIGHT... I STAYED IN THE ST. MORITZ IN 1954. AT THAT TIME THE HOTEL WAS ON THE CORNER OF 16TH ST ( 1555 COLLINS AVE.). THE SANDS HOTEL A BEAUTIFUL ART DECO HOTEL WITH A CASTLE LIKE TOWER ON ITS ROOF( 1601 COLLINS AVE) AND THEN CAME THE NEW YORKER (1611 COLLINS) WHICH HAD SUCH ELEGANCE AND BARBARA CAPITMAN TRIED DESPARATLY TO SAVE. WHEN THIS HOTEL WAS DEMOLISHED IN 1981 IT SERVED HAS A RALLYING CRY TO THE PERSERVATIONISTS THAT WE HAVE TO SAVE AND RESTORE THESE REMARKABLE STUCTURES. THE SANDS INFORTUNATELY WAS DEMOLISHED IN 1992...AND THIS MY FRIEND IS WHERE THE LOEWS HOTEL STANDS NOW...ON THE SACRED GROUND OF THE NEW YORKER AND THE SANDS. I THANK BARBARA FOR SAVINGS THE ST MORITZ AND MY CHILDHOOD MEMORIES. LASTLY THERE IS A PICTURE ON THIS THREAD THAT IS ENTITLED " THE NEW YORKER DURING DEMOLITION". UNFORTUNATLY THIS IS NOT THE NEW YORKER BUT THE POINCIANA HOTEL THAT I STAYED AT IN 1953. THE ST MORITZ IS ON THE LEFT AND THE ROYAL PALMS IS ON THE RIGHT.
Hi Charles, we've just been talking recently about the wonderful stories some of the older South Beach residents have to share. Sungal should interview you!
My Uncle did his Army training in South Beach during World War II and did the morning drills right on the beach. So even for me, the place holds some historic significance.
We'd love to hear your impressions of how life on the Beach has changed over the years!
