21st Birthday in SoBe
Coming over from Tampa for my 21st birthday on May 24th. Looking to stay 2 nights, the 24th and 25th. Itll be 4 of us, and Ill be 21 and so will one other. We have a guy and girl that are both 20. Some of the hotels Im looking at say guests must be 21 or over, so Im wondering if me and the other guy thats 21 can check in, and just bring the other two up to the room later. Think I'd have any problems with this?
By the way, great website, I'm finding all the things I need on here!

I'm sure that will be fine! At check in just have you two, after that no one is going to notice who is coming and going to rooms. Which hotel are you thinking of booking? As this will work better at the busier hotels.

Thanks for the response Jess. The one we're looking hard at right now is The Chesterfield. I know their preimium three bed suite is probably going to be cramped, but we hope to not be sleeping much!

While I can't vouch for any specific hotel, I assume they mean the person making the reservation must be 21 or older. Other guests can be any age. There are (a very few) hotels that may be adults only, but the Chesterfield does allow children.

There are a few hotels that you have to be 21+ to even stay there. We have stayed at a couple of them; ... the Clevelander and its sister hotel, the Essex House are 2 that say 21+. I'm guessing the reason for the rule is that places like the Clevelander are so centered around "bar-life" for lack of a better term. They even hand you a free drink upon check-in! I think for most other hotels you only need to have one legal adult (18+) in the group to check in and sign for the room, etc. The 21+ comes into play when alcohol is involved, it would seem. I can't think of other reasons for 21+ other than an alcohol reason. Otherwise, people are legal adults at 18, and can sign contracts (including hotel bills).
I have not stayed at the Chesterfield, so am not very familiar with it.

There was a recent thread (Which hotels accept people under 21? ) where someone was having trouble even making a reservation so long as they were under 21. This seemed to apply to almost all the hotels, so I think that's probably the more practical cut-off age for making bookings. Most hotels do allow minors, including the Chesterfield per their web site, but I would certainly call them if I wanted to be sure.

Also, the Essex House appears to allow children as well (they have that option in their online booking page). This may be something new since you last stayed there. The Clevelander is still 21+.

Thanks rk. I didn't know that the Essex changed their rules. Janet and I have reservations to stay there in the last week of April.

Once you check-in, nobody's carding you. Or the other people coming in and out of your room. I've worked at a couple of the hotels mentioned here and it wasn't even something they mentioned in staff training other than "Check the IDs when people check in." I just wouldn't go crazy charging drinks to the room if you're under 21. That may get you kicked out.

Nothing like "Rehab" at the Hard Rock, no. But the pool parties here are still fun.

Pool Parties
Hi Kamils,
Miami has super fun pool parties, and they're on only on Sundays. You have your choice of:
1. The Shore Club
2. The Mondrian
3. Nikki Beach Club (same concept but there's no pool so you just run in the ocean).
4. The Gansevort sometimes does a pool party-call the concierge to check.
The Mondrian crowd is sophisticated (at least they think so), the Shore Club party is fun and young, and Nikki Beach is a must if you've never been to a Nikki Beach.
An Insider’s Look at the New Mondrian Hotel Pool Party - Miami Beach 411 Here's a review of the Mondrian pool party not long after it opened.
