Default Renting an apartment for 30 days

    Hi guys,

I'm new on this forum and it's been very inspiring browsing around so far

My boyfriend and I are planning on going to Miami for a month from mid-december to mid-january. We'd like to rent an apartment and have been looking at the Decoplage as the prices seem very reasonable and the location in South Beach suits us.

The thing is... renting an apartment through the internet isn't something I've done before and it's a jungle, with hundreds of different websites advertising the same apartments. Are these websites to be trusted or are there a lot of scammers out there?

I was thinking about using this page:

Decoplage Available Units for Rent from Multiple Listing Services - MLS

Does anybody know it? Good or bad experiences?

Any info on how to do this "the right way" is very welcome.

    Thanks :-)

Those prices are for 12 month rentals. What you are looking for is a vacation rental. Check out VRBOŽ is Vacation Rentals By Owner

Myself and all my friends use them whenever we travel and have never had any issues.

Well, no, not all of them, as far as I can tell? I have been in contact with an owner who wanted 2000 dollars for 30 days in a 1 br in decoplage (but is wasn't available when we wanted it). And on quite a few of the apartments on the above mentioned website it says that they're available for short term rental. But thanks for the link to vrbo, I'll check it out :-)

decoplage is great because its so close to everything, and the view is great. I've also heard great things about sunbrite apartments on Penn. The people at sunbrite are very friendly and accommodating. they do 1 bedroom short term rentals (30 day min) for around 1500/mo.

Hi sissel, wpns4l is right, those mls listing are for rentals of 6 months or longer. Nothing wrong with that website. As you found, sometimes the owners will rent for a shorter period if they're having trouble finding someone for 6 months. Please keep the following in mind:

    (1) The Decoplage does allow rentals of 30 days, but many buildings have limitations, such as 180-day minimum, or 360-day min rental. Sometimes the owners will misrepresent this.

    (2) On rentals of less than 180 days you're expected to pay a tax of about 10% and there may be other fees, so check that.

    (3) In buildings like the Decoplage, and others, there is a lot of variability in upkeep and condition of units, so check carefully if this is important. Pictures can be very misleading.

    (4) Be careful when renting directly from condo owners, check their background for any pending foreclosures or other problems. If unsure, post a link to the ad here and we can check.

Don't trust craigslist, too many scams. Instead use vrbo as wpns4l mentioned, or other sites. Here are a few:

    http://www.vacationhomerentals.com/v...th-Florida.htm
    http://www.vacationrentals.com/vacat...h-Florida.html
    http://www.vrbo.com/vacation-rentals...st/miami-beach

    http://www.floridavacationrentalsinf...cation-rentals
    http://www.homeaway.com/vacation-ren...iami-area/r229

Use all the above precautions no matter which site you're renting from. The zip code for south beach is 33139.
