Anyone stayed at 918 Ocean Drive?
Hi everyone!
Has anyone stayed at 918 Ocean Drive? I'm planning on spending a week here with friends and any reviews or comments would be great! I've been trying to find information online but it keeps coming up as Fat Tuesdays.
Thanks,
Simpy

from the quick scan it seems everyone has nothing but great things to say about the condo.

Hi Simpy, I have not stayed there but the building also has its own website. It looks legit ... 918oceandrive.com
We have had some cases of scams that were reported here. Please let us know how it goes and enjoy your vacation!

Actually, 918 Ocean Drive is where Fat Tuesday's is (see picture from 2003 below). My main concern would be noise from that establishment, depending on which specific unit you're getting. If you're looking for a loud party place then it should be perfect, right above Fat Tuesday, and within two blocks of every busy place on Ocean Drive. If you're looking for peace and quiet then safer to look elsewhere.
As an aside, this is one of the older buildings on Ocean Drive, built in 1926 as the "Locust Apartments". It's an example of the Mediterranean Revival style you see all over south beach and pre-dates art deco. I have never been inside, but the interior should be OK as the building was remodeled about 7 or 8 years ago.

Thanks for your input, rk. I was scratching my head about that. I just called Fat Tuesday and they are in fact in that building on the ground level. There is indoor and outdoor seating and they serve food whenever the kitchen is open (they told me it's not always open).

Yes, you can see their sign at the upper left of the photo, somewhat in shade so hard to read. wpns4 may have been thinking of Wet Willie's which is on 8th, only a block or so from 918 Ocean Dr.
Each condo in 918 (there are about 20 of them) is individually owned, so one needs to check the specific owner/landlord before handing money over, as you advised already.

Thanks so much for the information, I'm really excited about the trip. Just wanted to make sure it wasn't a scam.

You can't really tell whether it's a scam or not from anything above. Each unit is individually owned. There is some useful advice on avoiding rental scams in the following recent article by Doug (see near the end of the article):

I had a group of friends come down and stay there last year. They got a 3 b-room facing towards Collins. I am reaching out to her now to confirm the address? I will post more once I confirm.

Yes, one of the units is a 3-br, the rest are all 1-br or studios. The 3-br is on the top (4th) floor. Did they find it noisy?

OK, I just spoke to her. They rented through Greater Miami Rentals. They loved the location and the space. Being that it is right on Ocean Dr, it can be a little noisy. She mentioned that in only one room they can hear the music from Fat Tuesdays. She is a little more laid back (for your average 33 year old) and does not really mind the music and noise. She also mentioned that you have access to the roof top which was pretty cool. Over all she liked the space and would defiantly rent there again.
