Getting to know Miami

Hi Everyone,
I am from Singapore and I am new to Miami and USA.
My son Marc will be reading Music major and English minor at University of Miami for six months. He is now staying in one of the hostels at 4 st south beach exploring and adventuring it before semester starts. We may join him before his semester ends.
It is great that we gather info about this county's security, crime rate, cost of living, its infrastructures, unemployment rate, etc.
Where can I read and learn the cultures and traditions of Miami. These info is mainly for Marc. I hope Marc would be able to give back what he has learn from UM to Miami.

My advise is to have your son worry more about perfecting Yo-Yo Ma. After that pursuit, it will be he who might make us better understand Miami.
