I went to the W last night and had a cocktail at the bar. They have a whole row of homemade bitters, syrups, etc; it looks like an old fashioned apothecary with all the different glass bottles. They even made one drink for us to sample that involved muddling some avocado. It was incredible. That is some serious mixology going on there -- no run of the mill cocktails, that's for sure.

Were they just there for decoration, or were people actually ordering them?

Yes, someone posted a link to an article the NY Times did on that bar. It's known for innovative ingredients, crative mixology, and heavy use of bitters. And part of the fun is watching them make your drink. I'm glad it lived up to the article Maria!
Personally I hate bitters. I just can't handle it. I know they're uber-trendy right know, but I like what I like. I'm sure the bartender, oh wait I think they prefer a different title, would be happy to make a more traditional drink as well. And isn't the bar part ice or something?

Dan,
The first step is right here on Miami Beach 411. We have occasional meetups and you just need to show up at the next one.

That's very true. We need to have a big one soon, now that summer is coming to an end, and all the people from up north will be moving away from the cold weather

I say once Gus and Michelle are back we schedule something. It's also starting to cool off. I noticed a temp in the 70s on the Clock/Thermometer on Lincoln last night. Fall is definitely in the air.

And it's in the stores. I went shopping and all the clothes are beautiful fall colors and for warm weather. I don't think being warm 365 will ever wear off as wonderful, but I am excited to take short trips to colder places, just to change up my wardrobe!

I am sure they can make traditional cocktails as well! I didn't notice anything unusual about the bar.

That's great, Matt! Looking forward to it. Yes, I will probably post something on Facebook, Eventbrite and my FB fan page. Even though this is about Sex and the Beach, I want it to be a celebration of all blogging, so it's really not just a party for me. We can toast to old White Dade, too!
