Re: What would you say the keys are to having a successful move to miami?
wow that is definitely interesting my condo fees include water, and cable so don't have to worry about that but as far as internet and phone go, I think the best option may be to do the cell phone "hotspot" idea. Sprint has a plan which has unlimited data, unlimited minutes, for my iPhone for around 110$ month plus taxes. The average cost of internet is 50$ a month and a landline phone would be 20-30$ i am guessing, on top of my cell phone bill of 70$ now. Best option may be to do that, just wondering how fast the internet would be by using it as a hotspot.. great advice!

well sport as you see in the posts between me and rk it can potentially be quite fast -- i have Verizon, apparently their network is very strong here, dunno about Sprint but it's def worth checking out
as an example, there's a British TV show i watch online on sunday evenings (which i'd think would be a pretty high usage time) - and the streaming is still EXCELLENT

Oops, on reading this today I see my posts are strangely off-topic. It's because I thought I was posting in that other thread by mailer-demon on keeping costs low. I need a bigger monitor. Sorry about that.

meetup.com
Something for everyone on there and it will make sure you get out of the house.
I don't really do bar/club scene so I can't comment on that, but I imagine it is just like every other club scene everywhere.

Would you say the big key to success is just doing things and keeping you mind moving the first month or so and adapting to the miami culture? Coming with an open mind ?
Any advice welcome thanks!
Some practical advice, you absolutely need to get a car, don't even think about moving to Miami if you can't drive/can't afford to buy a car, even if it's just a cheap used one, unless you're moving to Miami Beach and plan on never leaving it.
Do not, and I mean this, do NOT move to a suburb, especially if said suburb is far west, unless you absolutely must, or if you're a boring, dull person that enjoys watching life sleeping away. Avoid any suburbs like the plague if you can, move as close as you can to the Beach or Brickell or Coral Gables or a few other places. On the other hand, if you happen to work far from any of these places then, first it sucks for you, second, move as close to your job as you can, unless you like spending time in your car. Avoid living anywhere that says Kendall.
You need a job, unless you're a rich kid coming here to spend your family's fortune, don't even think of moving to Miami if you don't have a job.
After these conditions are met you can start thinking about all the rest.
