What is the weather like in February?
Hi,
I looked on the internet about the temperatures but what is it really like right now? Here in Germany its freezing Minus something. So i cant imagine anything else really... What do i need to pack into my suitcase, do i need a jacket or jumper? Is trainer shoes enough?
(Im a bit underweight so I like temperatures very warm, starting at 24 C, if its colder then i need a jacket)
Also, can i swim in the water each morning? It would also be important for health reasons.
Many Thanks!

Right now we are experiencing a wet February for some reason. All this week rain is forecast I am sorry to say.
In general, if you feel the cold, you must bring a lightweight cardigan or jacket as it gets cold here at night, plus in the AC that all shops and restaurants pump out. I really feel the cold also and always have a hoody or something with me.

Re: What is the weather like in February?
Hi avan77,
Great question.
Generally speaking, January and February are probably the worst months for getting a tan. However, the weather is absolutely beautiful for walking around.
It's still warm enough to swim, but you'll feel more comfortable with a light wetsuit top to block the wind.
- February average water temperature: 76º F | 23º C
- February average air temperature: 76º F | 24º C
- February average rainfall: 2.1 in | 5.3 cm
A jacket is not necessary, but it's always nice to have a light sweater on hand block the air conditioning in some of the restaurants.
Here's a link to some local weather info at Miami Beach 411:

Hope you have a great

Re: What is the weather like in February?
I mean, it's predicted rain but I'm looking out my window right now and it's sunny as always. I even had lunch outside on Alton Road and it was perfect.
I'd say it's going to be partly to mostly cloudy with a chance of some rain. Miami Beach is typically a little less prone to rain than Mainland Miami, so if you're staying out here the weather will PROBABLY be a little better.

If you like temperatures starting at 24 C, you'll most likely enjoy your stay here. Currently, it's about this temperature during the day when the skies are cloudy, and it gets a few degrees more when the sun is shining. Coming from europe when it is winter, you would probably feel the humidity here.
Besides trainer shoes, you may want to consider bringing your summer shoes like sandals, open toe shoes, etc.
What you would wear during the summer in Germany would be suitable for wearing here now. As the others have mentioned, due to the blasting of air-conditioning in the buildings, you would want to bring a lightweight cotton cardigan or thin jacket along with you. Since I arrived here last August, I haven't been able to use any of my cashmere cardigans and sweaters, and winter/Spring/Fall jackets.
Clothing is so much cheaper here than in Europe, especially with the ongoing sales and at the outlet stores. If you like shopping, you may want to consider buying stuff here actually.
Oh yes, bring a small lightweight umbrella that you can carry in your bag with you. I found the rain to be rather unpredictable here.

Re: What is the weather like in February?
Thank you for the helpful answers to everyone! Yes i was wondering if i should bring my thicker jacket or the thinner one, or maybe at least one thicker jumper.
Also, maybe this doesnt fit here too much, but is there any need to worry for sharks when im swimming? For example in the early morning hours or evening? Over here FL has got this reputation for sharks being there, like Canada always has this reputation for being freezing cold which isnt necessarily true either.

Shark attacks near Miami Beach are fairly rare, but it is still wise to play the safer odds. As always, the recommendations are to not swim at night, at dusk, or dawn, which are the typical times that sharks feed. Also avoid going in the water with an open cut, etc.
Shark attacks in Florida are more common up in Volusia County (Daytona Beach) and Brevard County (Cocoa Beach) areas.
Confirmed unprovoked shark attacks from 1882 to 2010:
Volusia County: 235 (highest in FL)
Miami-Dade County: 11
So, only 11 confirmed attacks in almost 130 years in Miami-Dade County. I'd say you're pretty safe.
By the way, of those 11 attacks, just 1 was fatal. It was back in 1961.
A more common hazard in Miami Beach waters is coming into contact with Man-O'-War jellyfish.
..... And, of course the most common hazards are the "land sharks" that hang around looking to take your money.

In regards to weather, It's around 21-24 C, so you should be OK. By March, the heat will start. By the summer, it will be sweltering hot.
You don't have to really worry about sharks unless you plan on swimming more than 200 meters from the shore. When I lived in South Beach, I tried swimming a few times in the morning and found it impossible due to the tide.
