Default Streetcar System (Trolley) Planned for Miami Beach??

    Hi:

I just read on another forum that there are plans for a streetcar system in Miami Beach??....how extensive will that be and will it include all of SoBe??.....any need for that with the presence of the 25 cent Local bus??....curious how bad that will make traffic, if they go through with these plans....is this a done deal??

Not a done deal, not heard a thing about it. Can you post the link to the article? Forum posts are speculation usually, the 25c bus is beloved in SoBe! Plus we already have a trolley... I think it won't happen, or if it does it will be in the year 2056 lol.

Read it on a City Data Miami thread.

not a done deal, just another proposal. They want to do all of the beach and then connect to the mainland some place..

    Time will tell!

    It won't happen until 2056.

2056? So it's an underwater streetcar then? That would be cool.

I really would not suggest a streetcar. It's all hard construction and you can't change it easily when, for instance, the water level comes up. Also, not just the water level, but all that hard-wall infrastructure to get damaged in storms. My guess is that people are looking for something more upscale than the $.25 bus, and a streetcar seems to fit that bill. We just went through this in DC - I'm not a fan. I'm sure someone can whip together a "trolley" that doesn't look like a bus and runs to all the necessary places, for about 1/100th the cost...and when the water comes up you can drive the "trolley" to higher ground.

It would, literally NEED to be on some kind of elevated track so it didn't shut down every time the tide came up. We'd have to wade to the platforms, but, hey I can deal with that.
