Default Young professional attending U of M

Hey everyone, I'm a young professional who will be starting an intensive doctoral program at University of Miami this January. My biggest concern is the lack of "realness" associated with Miami. As someone in my early thirties, who doesnt know anyone in the city, what areas and recommendations do you have for meeting people, etc?
    Thanks!

Hi and congrats on your new program in Miami. UM is a great school.

Coconut Grove and South Miami are both near the university and are cool real places. If you don't like the fake people, stay away from Miami Beach and Brickell.

Yeah I'll second what Jess said. Coral Gables also has some really cool people, and is the odd part of Miami that's full of people who are originally from here. It might not be what you're used to in terms of people, but they're invested locals. Plus, its a short commute to UM. And a bad commute here will ruin your experience.

Make no mistake, though, wherever you go people will be flake and run late all the time. It's not cute, but even "real" people can be really late to everything.
