    Hey sungal!
I checked with my realtor and nothing in my building that she has is available till March. But my neighbour is moving out this weekend and as yet his landlord has no one to replace him. It's also a massive one bed seeing as you are concerned about space, but he pays $1400. You may be able to get them down. Is that out of your budget? Also it's one cheque (Sorry, still British and fighting the USA spelling!), so no bills on top, all is included.

Would you like my realtors number as she does have other things in SoBe area, and personal recommendation is so much easier. She's great, she did 110% when I moved here and even changed all my light bulbs, a real star. May be worth a call, as she's not like others I met who were useless to be honest!

Sungal, you seem to have the right attitude to make the move work. I live in Jersey now, but am in Miami a few times a year for combo business pleasure. I'll be coming down end of March for the WMC, and to check out my future work place. I'm moving down for good first week in Sept and I'll be living in SOBE too. I'll be working on the mainland but the beach is a must, having lived on LBI for a few years, everything that people complain about I'm used to. No parking, traffic, tourists, shopping far away. I'm used to it. Now after living back in Hudson County for the last year I've had enough. If you do make the move and are down during the Conference, I could prob get you into a couple of release and showcase parties that week. I have a couple of friends production companies and artists doing stuff that week. Enjoy the move, I'm a little jealous that I have to wait until Sept to get down for good.

I hated the Icon building to begin with and how it obstructed the view. Now that damn shopping center is making it worse as you go by the overpass. Yeah, that's the first thing I want to see when I arrive in Miami Beach -- a damn parking garage. Thank God they can't do something like that on the Julia Tuttle.

Check out the website for the development. Actually the building should look cool and was designed as an entry to the city. I think many of us are disappointed that we are getting Bestbuy and not Saks 5th, or at least Crate & Barrel, but the location isn't great for big boxes. However, I am tired of shlepping up to Aventura area or to midtown for stores like Target, Borders, etc., you can't buy a TV on the beach as far as I know.

I still shop at Publix for lots of stuff, Whole Foods doesn't even sell coke and the location at 6th is better than trying to get up to the one on 23rd (?) and the smaller one on Dade doesn't carry everything and parking there is insane.

Anyways, the original design they had was much more cutting edge but the city wanted something else and the final design is by committee but I don't think it will be bad from 5ifth street.

While we're on topic, don't forget there's also Epicure (expensive but quality items!) Alton & Lincoln. There is a little Hispanic market across the street as well. Apple a Day organic/health food is a couple of blocks south on Alton.

Sun, I'm still not sold, but I guess that's because I grew up here and remember the days when you could actually feel like you were on an island. Change is good, but I'm not a big fan of over-development on the beach. I mean, how often do you have to buy a TV?

I think my wife would've like Bed, Bath and Beyond. We also love Epicure for the experience and the tuna fish. Its a puzzling place because some stuff like produce is so expensive you can't believe it, and other things like their french toast are really inexpensive for what you get. Great bakery, even their challah is great.

Since the topic of the thread kinda went all over the place I don't feel too bad, but Jess and Sungal you're welcome to any ins for parties I can get. The Clevelander is my usual day time chill spot but I don't know if it reopened yet. May have to find another oasis. I don't really do the big clubs during the Conference since I'm usually involved in the clubs up here, but i will def be at Ultra and a lot of the industry parties. Can't wait!

They've been talking about building that Best Buyt/Publix thing for years. So that's actually going to happen now? Impressive. Only took 6 years

Sungal, you're more than welcome to take pictures of me anytime. Just be advised I never smile in pictures.

I got the apartment!! Just need to do all the paperwork tomorrow! As soon as I get there I'm heading straight to the beach!

I'm not coming with a car--what do you think is the best way to get to publix and maybe target? taxi or bus?

I guess i should also find out the cost of mailing some boxes down...

    Horaay!!

    Congrats, Sungal!

In SoBe you can take the SoBe local bus which loops around that entire part of the island. I don't know exactly where your apt is, but that is an option.

To get to Target in Midtown, you can take a bus.

Sunaddicted - I love Epicure's tuna salad! Yeah, Epicure is weird that way. If you shop carefully you find some things that are not all that expensive considering what you're getting.

Oh, great thanks for the info re target. I was just looking through my time out miami book and apparently there's a "South Beach Bootcamp" on 13th and Ocean (playground) in the evening at 6:15..only $15 per class..not bad

    Has anyone ever gone?

In my book I see there are only 4 gyms
    Crunch fitness
david barton gym in Hotel Gansevort
    Downtown Athletic club
    Gold's gym

It says there are some other gyms that are mostly for gay clientele.

I find it hard to believe that these are the only 4 gyms in south beach. I kinda think the bootcamp class would be cool though.

There is also Equinox gym on 5th and Washington. Crunch has really cool classes though. Lack of gyms may be cos people jog, walk dogs, rollerblade, surf, skateboard etc.... It's an outdoors lifestyle

Downtown Athletic Club is not in South Beach

There was another gym that Crunch just brought, so now there are two Crunch's in SoBe. I can't think of any other gyms besides the others mentioned. Many condos and rental communities have their own gym facilities, which explains the lack of gyms.

Bootcamp sounds like a fun & hard workout, but I've never tried it. There's one in South Miami. The teacher guides everyone out in public -- on the street, in parking lots ... it's pretty wild. Apparently you're supposed to burn a bazillion calories in each workout.

PS the Gym on Alton Road by Lincoln (now a Crunch gym) was the gay gym. I worked out there for years. As a straight woman, it was great. No meat market bs. Also, Mickey Rourke used to work out there whenever he was in town. I'd see him often. I wonder if he beefed up for his new movie The Wrestler. He had skinny legs but developed arms.

They used to have great yoga classes upstairs but I don't know if that's still the case with the change of ownership.
