Have you tried Craigslist yet? You can find pretty much everything on there. It has a good search for the apartments and houses section.
There are a lot of scams on there too, though.
The Miami New Times has a lot of ads for houses, as does the Herals. You can check you their sites too. I think they are a bit more reputable..
Have you checked houses in Little Haiti? A few years back, Michelle and I rented a 2-bedroom house there for around $1,200 a month.
What area of Miami do you need to live in?
For around $2,300 a month, you might be able to find a nice, 4-bedroom house for rent down in Palmetto Bay.
I don't mean to sound like a pessimist, but I think given your price range it's going to be hard to find a 3 bedroom, let alone 4-bedroom place.
Mr. Polo, how flexible are you with your area? Do you need to be in a particular part of town? How big a concern is the safety of the neighborhood? I agree with Gus that finding a place that big for under $1800/month in the Miami area would be very difficult. You may find something in the inner city neighborhoods, but it wouldn't be very safe.
The Doral area, on the west side of the city, has some bargains. I just saw this on craigslist and it *looks* real:
****GREAT FOUR BEDROOM TOWNHOUSE IN LEEWARD****
Matt's right, though; there are lots of scams on craigslist. Some people claim to be owners of houses they don't really own and say they're out of the country on mission work and that you should mail them a deposit before you can get the key. Others are unscrupulous companies that like to bait and switch: they advertise a really nice-looking place for a great price that isn't really available, and when you contact them, they tell you it just rented and then try to rent you a not-so-nice place for more money.
If you don't need to be in Miami proper, there are some cities just north of it that are still pretty good bargains, like Hollywood and Dania Beach. West of Fort Lauderdale there are also some reasonable areas like Coral Springs and Plantation. Then, further north, you can find bargains in Boca Raton and West Palm Beach. I had a friend that lived in Riviera Beach. Parts of it were a little ghetto, but the parts by the water were nice.
