Also, consider a low floor in a large building - some great deals if you don't mind having a crappy view We saw a 2nd floor 1br in the Floridian years ago that was about $300 less than the higher rentals and a steal. Building had other issues though - is that still the case there?

What were the issues? I have friends living there with no complaints?

Why do you think that? My friends have lived there a long time, they love it. There is 2 pools, a big gym, the view is amazing... good location too.

When I was looking for an apt, I looked at online reviews of some buildings, and for the Floridian people were complaining about mold and other things.

I know the same people who live there I asked how they liked it and they gave lots of positives. I never mentioned the negative review to them. I tried to find the website..it ranked all the buildings, kind of like a tripadvisor for condos on West. But I found this website which lists some popular buildings on West and in Brickell.

Buildings in West Avenue Realty - Miami Beach Real Estate, Miami Beach Realtors, selling homes, condos and apartments.

This is a realt estate company's link and it happens to be the one that found me the nicest apartment I've had in SoBe.

I'm not against paying for several months in advance, seeing as for a while anyways I'll be living off of savings. I really hope I can find an owner managed building where they are more willing to negotiate.

Again, thanks for all the suggestions guys.

Thanks again Maria. Joe didn't have anything available for me as of now. He did however, hook me up with a realtor who has some good possibilities.

Yeah he seemed like a pretty good guy. When I mentioned you referred him to me he started to sing from West Side Story...

But after talking to him I'm thinking working through a realtor will probably be the best route for me to take.

I've taken a few checks around and it does seem like there's some good places out there for relatively cheap. As the others said, I'd go and visit any that you're interested in before signing anything. As for what I found, feel free to take a look. I hope this helps!

You might check with my old landlord, Steve Starr. He may have something dog friendly under $1000. His number is 305-527-7959. The good thing about him is that he owns and manages his own properties -- so no middle man. Happy hunting!
