I changed a user registration setting.
Let me know if you still don't receive an email notification for the threads you have replied to.
Unfortunately, you will not longer get email notifications for post made on the old expression engine site.
Also, check your page...
Settings > General Settings > Default Thread Subscription Mode
... and make sure the drop down menu is set to "Instantly, using email"

Happy your pleased with the change.
You're not the first person to comment about the bland style. We're working on a couple new styles that will be easier on the eyes. The plan is to make a few different styles that members can select, like you suggest.
What does everyone think about the fluid layout, compared to the fixed layout we had before?

Great, that cartoon style made the site look distinctive. The present layout, to me, seems much more generic....not really any different than city-data.com. And I agree with Maria about needing the forum notifications. It's so easy to lose track of a thread without them!

I followed Gus's instructions for forum notifications at the beginning of the thread and hopefully that did the trick!

Make it match the rest of the site. If it is fluid, make the forums fluid, if not, not.

We're going to change to a fluid design. It will take a few weeks to update the home page and all the sections. In the meantime, if you scroll to the bottom of the page and select the "MiamiBeach411 1.0" sytle in the "Quick Style Chooser" drop down window, you can see a new style we're working on.
Mike also made some great tutorial videos showing how to use some of the new site features.
Watch the Site Video Tutorials
In the "MiamiBeach411 1.0" style, we replaced the light background with a dark blue color, which, to me, makes it easier on the eyes, with not so much white space.
We also changed main navigation links to read: Home, Blogs, Forum, What's New, Visit
When Fred Garvin poked fun at me, saying he expected to see a "live chat box" on "Live" link, it got me thinking, the are old navigation links (Learn, Talk, Visit, Play, Eat, Live) were confusing and a little pretentious.

Just curious - is text formatting turned off for new post, but not for replies? I notice that the bold, italics, size, underline/etc options are only available when I quick reply, but not in new post.

Todd, go here...
Settings > General Settings > Miscellaneous Options > Message Editor Interface
... and make sure the "Enhanced Interface - Full WYSIWYG Editing" is checked.

By default, your account setting is set to GMT (Greenwich Mean Time), which is great if you are on a ship in 1880 with a chronometer, but somehow I suspect you are not in the Royal Navy. So at the top of you screen head to Settings > Edit Profiles > General Settings and then scroll down to the bottom where you can change the time zone setting. If you need more help let me know and I can make a tutorial for you in another way.

The time does keep jumping around. Kind of annoying, I like it on Miami time. Or should I say EST, Miami time would be 2 hours later LOL!

Sorry everyone,
I should have changed the default time stamp, before migrating the members over to the new software. Lesson learned.
You'll have to change the time stamp yourself by going to Settings > Edit Profiles > General Settings and then scrolling to the bottom where you can change the time zone.
After you change the setting, the time will no longer be jumping around.

I set mine to eastern time, even though I'm on the west coast, just so it would match up better with everyone else...

The new upgrade went well and we also now have a "Post Thanks" modification installed so if you find a post by another member useful simply hit the "Thanks" button at the bottom left of the post! This will save unnecessary posts from being created when you can simply hit "Thanks" and they plus everyone else will know it was helpful!
