Do fake ID's work?

Hi, I'm from switzerland and i was in south beach last spring.

I was in Cameo and Mansion club and i used an expired drivers license from switzerland from a friend.

It worked. But i'll go to south beach this spring again, in february, and we want to enjoy the nightlife more than the last time.
Now i've ordered a driving license from pennsylvania from idchief (maybe you know this site..), where i am 21.
Does anyone know how this fake ID's work in the clubs in south beach?

Honestly, you'd be better off using a fake from your own country as people here won't know its fake. But a fake from the USA? They'll know. They won't scan and they don't look good. Plus, if you are from Switzerland, how can you pass as American?

the problem is, in europe you only have to be 18 to go to the clubs, so noone really needs a fake id --> so you don't find any good fakes :-)
and i'll send you a link, this fake ID i ordered should be very good quality (i know everyone says this, but i'll send you a link, would like to hear your opinion..) It scans, has uv and holograms.
And a friend of mine was in the states for one year and he had a american driving license there. So maybe i just made the license there?

Tell me if i am wrong.

I don't know what makes a fake look real, I just mean borrow a real ID from someone at home and bring that with you. Or take your chances with the fake from here, but if it was me, I'd borrow my sisters/ cousins/ friends license to come.

I'll second what Jess says. If it's not a real ID your chances are VERY slim of getting in. People typically borrow IDs from older friends or relatives who look like them to get in. It is always easier for girls, since they want pretty girls in clubs. But a fake ID, no matter how good you think it looks, is probably not going to work. Sorry.

No Matt is wrong, you don't want the person you are borrowing the ID from to get in trouble. You just have to find the right people that can make ID's.

Ah, yeah. The one loaning the ID never gets in trouble. I've never heard of that in my life. Very easy to say "Oh, I lost my wallet, lost my ID, etc." I appreciate your business plug, though. As a UM alum and current professor, even my undergrad student know the best way to get a fake is a real one of someone who's not you.

The UM Police Department reminds you that possession of a fake ID in the State of Florida is now a FELONY!
Having a fake ID will not only land you in jail, it will stop you from attaining the careers you are studying for!
Every year more and more college students use fake drivers’ licenses to gain entry into nightclubs, bars, and other alcohol serving establishments. Florida law states that it is unlawful for anyone to knowingly possess or display any blank, forged, stolen, fictitious, counterfeit, or otherwise unlawfully issued driver’s license or identification card.
If you are arrested and convicted of possessing a fake ID, a cash fine up to $10,000 is not the only thing you will have to worry about. Imprisonment up to 15 years is also a possible result.
What is even more likely is that you will never be able to get the very job you are studying so hard for. A felony conviction means you cannot sit for the Bar exam, get various medical licenses, work for any governmental agency, work for most chemical or pharmaceutical companies, or work in several other fields. You really need to consider if a few drinks before your 21st birthday is worth the risk. Since you are a foreigner and most likely will not have a problem with some of the above, I bet you still don't want to land in jail...

It's been a decade since I had to use a fake ID, and the best way is simply to borrow a license from a friend or relative whom you resemble physically a lot.

Once I tried to sneak into the Iguana Cantina on the top floor of the Mayfair in the Grove, with a buddy's ID, then I would pass it back to him so he could go in also. Unfortunately, we don't look enough alike (I don't know what we were thinking) and the bouncer (who was a muscle midget) gave me attitude, took the license away, and threatened to have me arrested (!) I cursed him off and then had to go hide, since the cops were lurking at the entrance. My buddy was able to get his license back.

My half-brother and I used to have a system when he was under 21 and we'd want to go to a casino: I always looked young for my age and he always looked a little older. So I would go ahead of him and always get carded. While the doorman was waiting for me to find my ID in my wallet, he'd always wave my brother through!

Iguana Cantina, oh man Mario, bringing me back. You ever go for 50 cent margarita night on Thursdays? Those started some nasty nights back when i was at The U.

All said, the fact is college students will always be dealing with fake IDs. It's part of the culture. And I've never seen anyone arrested for it. generally you just let the bouncer keep the ID and walk away. It only escalates if you get belligerent.
