i may be totally offbase, but from what people have told me and from what i've read, South Beach is pretty wild on memorial day weekend. we're an older crowd and looking for soemthing calmer/classier/etc etc.

You're 28 - 30 y.o.'s, and you call yourselves an "older crowd". Oh boy, if that's true, I am in serious trouble. I'll be making reservations for the retirement home now!
Seriously, for a calmer, lower key, less frat party-ish atmosphere, try the informal "parties" at the Delano lobby, or the Mondrian lobby.

Glenn, thx for the update! Oh well i was comparing myself to the crowd thats to be expected this weekend.
Thx for the headsup - i will look into those 2. i wonder if they have cover$. we were thinking of sticking to hotel lounges, but i feel like they are going to be even tougher to maneuver around.

Ummm, the crowd expected this weekend is more or less ghetto. Not necessarily respective of age, just class. And Memorial Day, South Beach is LOW class. It may be hard to find a decent party on the Beach, as most decent people leave that weekend. No joke.
This is not like Spring Break. This is like every bad rap concert in the country converging on South Beach at once. It's not a good time, and not indicative of what the Beach is like. Try those spots Glenn mentioned, they may be a little better. Otherwise I'd suggest staying as far north as you can to avoid the "element."

Hey Oceanblue,
I'd try a few places in SoFi... one is Monty's is a chill outdoor bar with live music and a laidback crowd. Then I'd head to Brickell, and check out Mary Brickell Village. Blue Martini and the restaurants there are very popular.

If you guys are not doing anything on Memorial Day itself, come check us out at the Burger Throwdown.
I'll be making burgers along with others in a competition and the Burger Beast will be judging.

Okay, here you go. Montys is not a club or a lounge, therefore you won't get a party scene there. I do not suggest Blue Martini either in Brickell, they do not treat "visitors" very well. If you decide to go to Brickell, try Lolita or Club 50at the Viceroy. There are two small lounges in South Beach open and will not be urban at all. First one is Mokai, the second one is Louis. Mokai is open Friday and Saturday. Louis is open Thursday-Friday. Set is another mid-size lounge, the only day I recommend there is Sunday.
I would have suggested the Pink Room, but it is on the strip and most of those venues are rented out to the urban style parties.
Other than that, you can try the hotel lobby parties (these are not lounges). Delano Tuesday, Thursday at the Shoreclub. Mondrian Friday.
Good luck.

Are you determined to stay in South Beach? If so, Mokai and Louis are two good bets, but both have very strict doors and are pretty expensive.
However, if you are willing to get off the island, definitely check out Bardot. Mostly live hipster music, but usually nice and fun. Personally, I am a total non-fan of Blue Martini, I have never had a good time there. Club 50 has awesome views, but I have never seen it very full. You could also try Vagabond or Electric Pickle. Not exactly "classy" clubs, but definitely fun.

yup will be staying in SoBe. Indeed, i guess thats why i'm trying to get onto GUESTLISTS or get CONTACTS for places that may be tough to get into.

What is the makeup of your party. Note that many of the places that will be non-urban this weekend are also going to be the ones with stricter door policies, as well as higher drink prices. I'm hoping you have at least 3 girls out of the 6, otherwise your chances of getting into Mokai or Mynt are pretty slim. Delano is probably doable, in any case, but they can get a big picky on a busy night.

I mentioned Monty's was chill outdoor bar. If they want saomething laid back it's great for happy hour. Blue Martini is easier to get into than any club in South Beach..plus I'm sure it won't be part of Urban Beach Weekend.
Aside from the parties Fabian mentioned, are there any other clubs that will not be a part of UBW?
