Default Whats with the club bashing?

I'm getting a sense that a lot bashing is going on here for the "ultra lounges" in SoBe... Just because there are a few bad experiences for some doesn't make all the clubs bad... Clubs are like any business... they are here to make money... they dont open just because owners want to waste money... People come from all over the world to SoBe on vacation to do one thing... SPEND MONEY! These clubs are NOT the only places that realize this and there are other businesses in SoBe that mark up prices on clothing, food, everything... Just because some cannot afford to drop $300 on a bottle doesn't make the club ridiculous... there are plenty of people in Miami who are well off that can afford that like if its a pack of gum!

All im really trying to say is that everyone is different and in different situations... what works for you doesn't work for others... and vice versa... and the same goes for the "pretentiousness" and "dressing up"... some people ACTUALLY like "being in the scene" ... and others dont care about that stuff! doesnt mean you gotta bash a place or specific people for that matter just because thats what they wanna do... if you dont like it its cool... do the scene you like and feel comfortable with... Girls, you dont like to dress in heels and sexy? Guys, you dont wanna dress up??? ... its cool theres plenty of other places in Miami that can accomodate... as im sure you guys know many of them... but there's no reason to hate!

Oh and writing articles with curse words shows a lack of vocabulary and class for those writing them.... Just saying...

Geez, sorry we don't fit into your nice little Chamber of Commerce package of putting a positive spin on everything about Miami in order to make a few bucks.

I am sure you are an honorable man, you are entitled to your opinion. But I can't stand by and lets you takes 'shots' at an individual who has THE SAME rights to express his opinion as you do! Further, this man has served in the United States Marine Corp and was sworn to defend the same rights you seem anxious to deny him. For that, Shame On You!

You are a promoter, great! Your business is to get people into clubs and make sure they have a good time. Fantastic! A noble profession for which you are paid, that's great, it the american way.

But, not everyone would agree the club system is perfect. Mr. Meltzer pointed out his perceptions of some flaws compared the way the clubs ran a few years ago (he mentions this in the story).

He is entitled to recount his experiences and provide his opinion just as you are!

Remember, a week or two ago you had a sushi event. You described it as 'very classy.' But then you added, women models will be acting as human tables on which the sushi will be served. I didn't (and still don't) think this is very classy, but I didn't challenge your comments.

In conclusion, Mr Meltzer has his experiences and his opinions. The are well written and important to visitors to this web site who need to know just how much a night at the club is going to cost them.

In my opinion, my good friend, you should respect that. You will have ample opportunity to prove him wrong if thats the case.

    Fred,

I think she is a woman, not a man. And she has the right to state her opinion as much as Matt does.

Of course, she is way off base.

She doesn't understand that our job on this forum is to provide the truth to visitors. It's what sets us apart from the other tourism-related sites.

And that's the reason our followers prefer us over the other sites.

The truth is, there is such an arrogance in those clubs and that arrogance comes across in Yansey's post.

I doubt she was around back in the 1990s when most clubs didn't charge cover or if they did, it was never more than $5.

Just because those days are long-gone doesn't mean we have to keep our mouths shut about it.

    Fuck that shit.

Nothing that you guys are saying is wrong... you are right clubs are priced high... but so is all other stuff in SoBe... just like souvenirs... so everyone's looking to make money... i was just getting that point across... and i was saying just because some have experienced bad times, doesn't mean everyone will or has... so there's no need to bash!

by the way im a guy... lol

I think it is a good thing for everyone, both customers and clubs alike, that Matt points out the flaws in the clubs. When these flaws are pointed out, it alerts club owners / management that there is something wrong, and that there is customer dissatisfaction. This lets the clubs know where improvement is needed, and improvement leads to more customer satisfaction. I'm sure the clubs want satisfied customers (which equals repeat business and more $$$).

Maybe the club owner read Matt's review, and then took proactive measures by having a little chat with the offending employee(s). The owner might have discussed things with his employee(s) like better customer service, etc. Better service leads to a better customer experience, which leads to repeat business.

    Isn't that a good thing?

Not all the clubs in South Beach are bad. But not all of them are that great either. I am a clubbing girl and I know where to go, what works and what doesn't. South Beach has big clubs, but a lot of SoBe's reputation is trading from 10 years ago in my opinion.

Matt wrote his article based on his bad experience at Cameo. A bad review they deserve may I add. But I do agree with vansey when he says many people come to SoBe to spend money, live the dream, get dressed up and pretend they are living like a celeb for the night. I personally try to encourage people to certain clubs where I know from my own experiences they will have a good time. I would never for example tell someone to go to LIV as it is a shit club. Yes, it's gorgeous inside. Yes, they have good DJs. But who wants the shit on the door, bad attitudes and ridiculously priced drinks??

South Beach clubs, especially the Opium Group need to stop being so dam greedy and treat their PAYING customers with some respect cos eventually, people will stop going.

So if everybody's coming to Miami to spend money and I have a right to take as much of it as I can get, I think I'll open up a cool store on Washington Avenue and sell water for $50 a bottle. Everybody's happy....right? I can require a dress code to get in...

The Kardashians sell bottled water for $10 at Dash. Here's my review of the store:
    D-A-S-H Does It Again

As far as clubs and the high prices and door policies, people who want to go out know what they're getting into. Good or bad it's all part of the experience. And when people visit Miami they have money to spend! It's better than going to Vegas and losing money at the casinos..and we have a beach.

Most of the people who write in here are looking for ways to save money! I think everybody wants to have a stellar night out, but they don't want to get ripped off. Not everybody realizes what they're getting into until they're already caught in the web!

Yansey, were you referring solely to Matt's article?

Yes, a few people are into it and can afford to spend money there or they save up. But as a 40 something local Miamian, I can tell you I remember the days when clubbing was not such the ostentatious thing it is today -- Carlos remembers those days too.

I for one am NOT a fan of clubs, but I respect everyone's opinion and everyone is entitled to their tastes and desired forms of entertainment.

So I'm going to bash clubs right here. Why do I dislike them? To listen to horribly loud music, not being able to talk to my friends, be surrounded by a bunch of drug-crazed humping baboons (because the art of dance is completely lost these days and everyone dances like they're a hoe-bag stripper or like they're dry humping), be groped, given bullshit attitude because I'm not a skinny bitch, stand in line with a bunch of people who have to suck up to the doorman and pay half my rent in cocktails? You couldn't PAY ME enough to go to a club.

Again, that's just my taste, and I hope you will respect that.

If getting into a club was a PLEASANT, streamlined experience, I wouldn't have this opinion. But we get readers here who actually STRESS OUT about how they're going to do it. It's a club, for pete's sake, not admission into the gates of heaven. I find that so ridiculous. There are children starving in Africa and you are going to stress out about a club? Let's get a sense of perspective here.

And I do like to dress up, but why do I have to do that for a club? In any case, even the freakin' Collins Avenue whores at 3 am look less skanky than the typical club chic ... this is not my idea of elegant or "dressing up" ... but there you go, that is the standard South Beach uniform for women.

Let's face it, clubs are by their very nature elitist institutions. It is all about SEX and MONEY sells. It's that way around the world, not just South Beach. They are theatrical experiences in nature, where you go on a mental vacation and are surrounded by beautiful things (beautiful to some, obviously not to me). And again, that's all good, but you do need to see how this will turn off many people.

Do you really think I would recommend someone to go to a club, when they can see a show at the Arscht Center, have a fabulous dinner at a five star gourmet restaurant, cocktails at a lounge and still have money to spare?

Anyway, when I tell people about alternatives in entertainment, I don't feel that I'm bashing clubs, I'm just giving people advice on fun things to do involving music and adult beverages that isn't a club. There's so much more to Miami than clubbing.

We are lucky to have honest people like Jess and Matt who will tell our readers like it is and give non-sponsored advice about clubs.

GandJ ... your wish is my command. Here ya go y'all.... sex and the beach: Why I Hate Miami Beach Clubs

Yansey, please don't take this personally. I'm giving my opinion, that's all. Thousands of people visit Miami Beach for the nightlife and that's all good. It's just that it's not everyone's cup of tea.
