Are the clubs strict on dresscode during Ultra Music Festival week?
Hi,
I'm in Miami from March 22nd - 1st April 2011 and just after some information regarding the Ulta Music Festival week.
1) Are the clubs going to be as strict on dresscode during the UMF week?
2) Will a British Driving License be enought for ID or will I need to take my passport out with me?
3) I'm going to take around £2000 / $3100 spends for 10 days. Will this be enough to get in the clubs, deep sea fishing tour and universal studios?
Anyone who could help that will be great.
Thanks
Jono

The major clubs will still have the same dress code as usual. I actually watched a guy get turned away at the door to Space last year cause he walked over from the festival and still had on flip flops and shorts.
Dont know about the drivers license, as for money. Is that just spending money or is that hotel, transport, food and everything else money? I mean that basically works out to $310 a day. If you plan on attending some of the events going on at Clubs entry alone will run you $20-$100+ depending on who is playing and how far in advance you bought your tickets.
So if thats just pure going out money i would say its more than enough, but if thats supposed to cover everything on your trip then its still enough you might just have to cut back on a few things.

The UK license is fine for ID.
As for the money, more than enough for spending money! But for a trip all together with hotel, transport, food etc...I am not sure. Ultra week is expensive and so are the other things you are proposing to do.

I thought Space was all about flip flops and shorts..

Yes $3100 just for going out and spends. All my Hotel, Transport and Ultra ticket has already been sorted. I have heard drinks and food is expensive so hopefully $300 a day should be enough.
Do you know the dress codes for the nightclubs - Liv, Mansion and Space. They are the 3 clubs i want to try and get to depending on who's playing.
I was planning on just packing shorts and t-shirts but by the sound of things i think i'm going to have to pack shoes, suits and shirts..

Yea 3k is more than enough if its just for going out.
As for dress code, i'll assume your a guy. All you need is a nice pair of dress shoes, nice pair of jeans (no holes, fit you and dont hang off your ass) and a nice button up long sleeve shirt. You wont need a suit or anything. That will get you in all the clubs here. Space is a bit more laxed. You can get away with sneakers, jeans and a t-shirt there.

Universal Sutdios? Dude, you know that's over a 3 hour drive away? So if you factor in transport to Orlando, hotl up there, and park passes, you may wanna think about bringing another few hundred dollars. A park ticket alone is like $75, then once you're there everything is super expensive.
Deep Sea fishing can be a few hundred dollars as well, depending on how you do it. If you're wanting to do both the fishing and Universal, you may need to take a couple of nights off to conserve funds.

Actually, you can have a great day at Universal Studios for $140. It includes round trip transportation from Miami as well as the theme park ticket.
Here's the link: Orlando 1 Day With Theme Park Ticket - Orlando - Miami Beach 411 Travel Store
You can even get a discount since you're a MB411 member.

Well thats great if the Universal trip is $140. Also found a Deep Sea Fishing trip for $50 so I'm thinking $3000 for 10 days should be enough then.
There are 4 of us going, all guys. Will this be a problem getting into the clubs? Do we need to split up? I know where i live - Manchester, UK, they can be quite strict on group of guys going in..

Hey Jono,
Yes, it's hard for four guys to get into a club without opting for expensive bottle service. I suggest doing bottle service at one of the really hot clubs since that will be your only way in. Unless you're all Calvin Klien models and a woman is working the door!
For the less hot clubs try braking into 2 and:
1. ask some lovely ladies in line to walk in with you and offer to pay their cover or buy them a drink inside. (About $40) Some might agree to do it without any bribe!
2. I have seen doormen say to guys, "Hey 20 bucks." And then you just do the $20 handshake. (Still works out to $40)
For an in-depth guide check out my article on the subject:

Hi Christy,
Thanks for that post it was really hopeful. Still have a few questions though.
1) What is a cover charge? Do you have to pay this?
2) How much is a bottle service? I'm guessing a bottle service is similar to VIP service?
3) Which are the high end clubs? I'm not fussed about hanging out with celebrities more intrested in the music and seeing the house / electro DJs.
4) Will $150 be enough for a night out? By the sounds of things going to need a fortune.
I have to say it does seem alot of effort to get into the clubs. Hopefully it's slightly different during the Ultra Week.
Thanks

1) Cover charge is the charge you have to pay to get into the club. It's like an admission fee. The only way you don't pay it is if you know the door guy or you get a bottle.
2) Bottle service runs anywhere from $300 for one bottle to thousands for others. And you can only have, I believe, 6 people per bottle in most clubs. So at 4 you'd be ok. But be advised a bottle doesn't go far. You'll get about 3 drinks each and once the bottle is gone they kick you out of your table. You still get to stay in the club, though.
3) high end clubs do not play good music, necessarily. If you're here to hear elctro/house music, Space is your best club option.
4) For $150 you can have a great night out if you're not going to clubs. Your average drink price is gonna be about $12, so figure it out from there. Covers can be anywhere from $20-$40. Figure out how much you want to drink and how drunk you wanna get and do the math. Shots, I'll warn you, get REAL expensive.

Re: Are the clubs strict on dresscode during Ultra Music Festival week?
Does anyone know if there will be a shuttle service during Ultra Music Festival, or I will have to arrange a taxi???

No shuttle service, get the bus there and hitch/ walk/ share cabs if you can find one back.
-
I might just rent a car for a week! Is there parking around ultra? how much does it cost?
-
Parking is going to be insane. Can probably run you $20 - $40. Would likely be cheaper just to cab it.
Your questions about the clubs all have really different answers depending on the club you go to. From what it sounds like, you will want to hit Space. It is huge, has the laxest dress code, does not balance the guy/girl ratio, does not cater to celebrities, and is EDM focussed, at least for that weekend. Note that you probably still need to wear pants, though.

Last year on the second day we did drive, and paid $40 to park for the day. Totally worth it in my opinion, getting a cab back the first day was not an option. There were none, and they wanted to charge outrageous prices per person with no meter.

And what they were trying to do to Jess is illegal, I might add. So if that happens, get the driver's name and report him. And let him know you're reporting him. Who knows, it may get you a free ride home.
That all being said, I parked on the street for Ultra last year, didn't pay and got a ticket. It was $18. So, basically, a parking ticket is cheaper than paying the thieves and goniffs running the parking lots. I'd rather have my money go to the city anyway. Somebody's gotta pay for that Marlins stadium.

Re: Are the clubs strict on dresscode during Ultra Music Festival week?
I looked up some taxi fares from the hotel im gonna stay in near MIA, its like $25 each way to and from ultra! considering that there we have to go there and change before going to clubs, im just gonna rent a car! $300 for a week /5ppl= $60/person!! most taxis can only take 4 at a time unless we get a van, and no guarantees that we will find one for the way back! Plus being mobile for a week is definitely worth it!!

The car might be a good idea for Ultra but if you're going to drive into SoBe for other things it will be a hassle.
