Default Best Bar To Get Lager / Beer In South Beach ?

One of my friends coming from England for WMC says he likes to drink lager but has a hard time finding it in the US. I'm not a beer drinker but to my understanding this is just a type of beer so I'm surprised most bars don't have one or more types of this.

Are there any bars in south beach that have lager beers and / or a good selection of beer in general for this mate? lol.

    thanks

I'm not big on beer but I'm going to take a shot at this.

    1. Zeke's on Lincoln Rd.

    2. Playwright

    3. Waxy O' Conner's

    4. The Room

    5. Clarke's

    6. The German restaurant on Lincoln Rd.

The German place seems like the logical choice but I don't think they'll be an issue finding it anywhere.

Zekes or Abraxus. But even then he's going to be disappointed! No casks here

Please define cask for us...it seems like yet another funny word you brought over.

    Note the last sentence:

Cask-conditioned beer, often referred to as 'real ale', is brewed from only traditional ingredients and allowed to mature naturally.
The unfiltered, unpasteurised beer still contains live yeast, which continues conditioning the beer in the cask (known as 'secondary fermentation'); this process creates a gentle, natural CO2 carbonation and allows malt and hop flavours to develop, resulting in a richer tasting drink with more character than standard keg ('brewery-conditioned') beers.

Real ale is always served without any extraneous gas, usually by manually pulling it up from the cellar with a handpump (also known as a 'beer engine'). This is the traditional way of brewing and serving beer; only a few decades ago did filtered, pasteurised, chilled beer served by gas become normal.

The only place in the world where cask-conditioned beer is still commonly available is Britain.

Zekes has the best selection of bottled beer.

The Abbey off Alton Road has the best draughts, in my opinion.

The Room and Abraxes also have phenomenal secletions of beer.

If they guy likes good beer, this should be enough. Everywhere else is gonna have pretty much your standard collection of domestics and imports.

Just to clarify it's spelled Abraxas ... it's on 4th and Meridian and a little hard to find as it's in the middle of a residential area and it looks like a house. There is a low-lit neon sign.

Gulf Liquors on Alton also had a decent collection of international beers for sale if you want to drink at home.

The Abbey is a MUST for any beer lover and a classic South Beach institution. Enjoy! Bottoms up!

I know you're asking about South Beach, but if you want to go further afield try Democratic Republic of Beer downtown near the Arsht Center. It's just across the causeway.

Is Zeke's still open for business? I called over there, but no answer.

Waiting for them to answer the phone is probably the same as waiting for them to bring you a beer while you're sitting outside.

    It will never come.

You have to get off your ass and grab it, which is not a problem unless you're alone because then some wanker comes along and takes your table.

I used the word wanker ... unfortunately it comes up more than I wish it would.

Gus, I just asked @sflbeerblog on Twitter about Zeke's. If anyone would know, it'd be him.

Someone on Twitter just told me they were at Zeke's last week ... so I guess that means it's still open!

    Zekes' is DEF still open.

And Carlos is the first non-Brit I've heard use the word "wanker." Though I think it was an excellent word choice for that particular sentiment.

I've heard The Room is kinda hard to find. 100 Collins Ave brings me to a building that says Mercury and Shoji Sushi. Is it in there? LOL.

It is on 1st street between Washington and Collins Ave. There is a little row of stores including Primo Pizza and The Room. On the corner of 1st and Collins is Nemo (Now closed) and so it is next door.

Thanks, Jess. Yeah ... that's the thing. It's not right on Collins, hence the confusion. It's a small storefront. You might miss it if you blink.
