But Hollywood park is still (relatively) convenient to a lot of LA. Also, LA is an exponentially bigger city than Miami, so drawing enough people is much less of an issue.

I think they could get the license if they did a lot of other things to spruce the place up. I just feel like nobody has the desire to being the park back.

Here is a nice long read on what Hialeah Track was and is facing to shine again. It's really a complicated issue with many hoops and traps to navigate.

By now, I've gotten used to reading that Hialeah is the most beautiful track in the country. I've gotten used to ignoring that point in all the literature. I'm sure it was a gem.... but it certainly was no Santa Aniita. SA is Hialeah's contemporary and opened in 1934.

For a contrast in design, here are some SA images ........http://images.search.yahoo.com/searc...ace+track&vm=r

You think SA is better than Delmar? I always thought Delmar was thee best.

That said some pollster (I'm sure hired by Genting) called me the other night asking my views on a lot of casino-related issues, one of which was a proposal to put a mega-casino on-site there as part of a restoration. I could go for that.

It's tough to compare as Del Mar is a Summer season track.

Santa Anita is grand scale and elegant all through out. It's French design won the most prestigous architectural award in 1934. Being framed by the San Gabriel Mountains clinches it being as the most beautiful large track in the country.

Del Mar is a cutesy retreat built in a California Mission type style.
I love the place and would probably grade it a notch under Hialeah in it's heyday. It does have some Hialeah qualities to it and perhaps even a bigger grandstand.

I just got back from MIA. If the weather was nicer over the weekend, I was going to bring the topic to go again. Hopefully before the meet ends. Wouldn't mind either heading to Gulfstream.

Haha ! Funny you got that call after things slowed down in Tallahasse on the Biscayne site.
