I can see it now the b@#$*&#dmiami people saying how irresponsible mb411 is for encouraging gators to eat people. Glamorizing it, making fun of it when it is a truly serious problems affecting a certain number of people every year. Not to mention how such light heartedness can affect gator conservation! Seriously guys! Geeze!
(Writers note--the satirical note is the view of the writer only and not that of the mb411 staff)

Dear Mr. Garvin,
On behalf of Doug and the Miami Beach 411 staff, please accept my humble apology. We do NOT encourage, or endorse this type of dangerous behavior on the Everglades Tour. We respect the wildlife and always keep our distance from these ferocious beasts. Man-eating alligators should only be handled by a trained professional (or those with $5 and who want to take a souvenir picture). Please don't judge Miami Beach 411 by Doug's wreckless post. I have no idea what got into him. He is usually a responsible guy, but he obviously missed the mark here. I promise to sternly reprimand him. Is there anything you wish us to do to teach him a lesson?
Again, please don't judge us by this. We work hard to entertain and enlighten our readers. I encourage you to browse around the site and read some other stories by our team of fine writers.
Most sincerely,
Gus Moore
Miami Beach 411

I don't know what got into me! Somebody posted it on their Facebook wall and I thought it seemed apropos....
I've been on the Everglades Tour and managed to return unscathed. The gators there looked like they were really more concerned about getting their 18 hours of sleep....

The Everglades Tour is very fun and entertaining. Someone once told me that they didn't like Gator Park because "during the wildlife show, the trainer doesn't stick his hand into the gator's mouth, like they do in Thailand". I told them, that here in the US of A, we really don't want the trainer to lose his hand or any other limbs...
btw, that's not a gator, it's a croc.

It is a fun tour. Just be careful though that that bench you're sitting on is actually a bench....

This link mentions that Gators are more numerous in the Everglades, and I have encountered far, far more Gators than Crocs in my time out in the Everglades.
http://www.nps.gov/ever/naturescience/crocodile.htm
"Alligators are more numerous in Florida than crocodiles, are darker, have a broader snout, and are typically found in freshwater habitats. Crocodiles, on the other hand, are rare and secretive creatures that inhabit coastal, brackish, and salt-water habitats"

Now that's a hilarious picture.
You can't caption that picture better than the treatment it has recieved here.
It's a tough call, but I'm siding with Mario. I believe that is a croc, onlty because the teeth seem more protrusive. It's just a guess.
As some of you might already know, I love Crocs. All seven pairs that I own.
Yesterday, I hooked a tee shot into the brush. While looking for it, I thought it wise to take a penalty considering this gator wasn't shy about making movement towards me. This might be the same gator I spotted days ago doing push-ups on the bank, bellowing a horrendous sound. He's an easy 8'.

I think it was a wise call to let that shot go.

Looks like a gator to me.
Does anyone know the name of the man in the err... reptile's mouth's? I think it's a famous surfer from th 60's. At first, I thought it was Micky Dora, but after searching Google, I can not confirm that is who it is.
Does anyone know the name of our fearless writer?

I think I found the answer, thanks to a little help from Google image search. I uploaded it by clicking on the camera icon next to the search box, and it led me to this site:

The man in the reptile is apparently fashion (and African wildlife) photographer Peter Beard. And the blogger also describes this animal as a croc! Of course, he could be wrong....

If there is an African bias, it would lend to that beast being a croc.
Maybe it's just because I recently finished Phil Harwood's account of Kayaking the Congo. Seems Crocs rule that continent.

But alas, he could be right! And Africa only has crocs, not gators.
@ Blackford, yep, I knew it was a croc due to the protruding teeth.

Doug, thanks for tracking down the guy in the picture. I didn't know Google offered that feature.
