    Lightbulb New Post/Message Interface

Hello everyone it's Mike back with some more useful information! We just now finished upgrading the site and along with that came a brand new interface for posting messages on the site i.e. a new editor - CK Editor.

    Video Demo:

    Details:

    • High Performance and Accessibility. The CKEditor offers full accessibility functionality, its fast loading and has awesome AJAX capabilities.
    • Auto-Save. Sick of losing posts when your browser crashes? Now you won’t have to worry, your content is safe.
    • Future Development and Maintenance. CKEditor is described as “the text editor for the internet”, it is maintained by a dedicated team of developers and as they continue improving and offering great new features.
    • Popularity. CKEditor is used by many top-brand companies, including IBM, Adobe, Oracle, and drum roll, vBulletin! (For full list, please visit here, http://ckeditor.com/who-is-using-ckeditor)

    Lightbulb Editor Choices

Did you know that your site settings affect how the new CK Editor works?

To test it out using the different modes change the type in your settings:

    1. Click the "My Account" drop-down in the navbar.
    2. Click on "Edit My Profile".
    3. Now when the page loads look for "General Settings" in the left column, click the link.
    4. Now when the page loads scroll down and look for:

    • Enhanced Interface - Full WYSIWYG Editing
    • Basic Editor - A simple text box
    • Standard Editor - Extra formatting controls

When posting messages to the forums or other members, there are three interface types available to you. The simplest of these is a simple text box, while the last is a fully-fledged WYSIWYG editor, which allows you to format your text as you want it and see the results immediately.

Depending upon the capabilities of your web browser, you may not be able to use all of these options. If you experience problems when posting messages, try switching to a different interface type.
Try out the different modes to see which you prefer!

Thanks, Mike. The new interface Looks great.

    Just a few notes:

    - Can we change the boarder color of the editor, from blue to a light pink?
You can leave the "Post Your Reply Message Here" color blue, but change the editor color to pink.

    - Do you see any harm in removing some of the buttons:
    [ # <> PHP]
    The 3 Insert Row buttons
    The Three Insert Column buttons
Subscript, Superscreipt, and Insert Horizontal line?

The editor type you choose in settings will automatically remove some of those options however I'm taking it as you prefer the Enhanced Editor for example and only wish to remove the buttons you more than likely never use am I correct? If so bear with me - I've removed one or two here or there but come to find out this is structured differently in 4.1.5 versus 4.1.4 which had some documentation on it where as this does not but if I've removed one or two buttons logic says I'll figure out the rest asap .

As for the pink you mean something more like a pale/pastel pink color to offset the editor area? Edit: Also did you mean the border as in how I have a pink border (look closely, the blue clashes w/ the pink i.e. plays tricks on the eyes) or the entire background a light pink?

    Yes, that is correct.

Yes, a pastel pink to offset the editor area.

Sorry for not being more clear. I meant the entire background light pink.

    Mike,

I'm impressed you were able to get the MB411 cityscape into the back ground of the Editor. However, I think a light pink color would make it stand out better.

Can you make the color similar to the pink color in Jess's avatar?

Really, Jess? You don't think it looks a little too... girly?

I've always wanted to add a dash of pink color to the site, but I'm worried this might be a little too much.

Maybe we should go with a shade of gray.

I'm also weary of the white gradient on top of the box.

I would love to hear some feedback from the other ladies and gentleman. Would a different color look better?

Mike, can you please remove the white gradient on top of the box? I think it will be easier to make a decision on the color, if the box is one solid color.

Agree on the gradient. I like the pink. The rest of the site is a dark blue. This lightens it up. If people aren't loving the pink, I say go for yellow. Gray makes it too somber.

Let's try a lighter share of pink. How does FFCCFF look?

I think pink is incompatible with blue, looks a bit strange. Yellow or cream might look better.

I realize this is a matter of personal taste, so you'll have to go with a consensus, or your own preference.

    Mike,

Thanks for changing the color to cream and removing some of the unnecessary buttons.

    Just a few notes:

    - Can you add the buttons for bullet points?
    - Can you add the buttons for numbered lists?
    - Can you add the buttons to align the text to the center?
    - Can you remove the email button?

    Thanks,

    Gus

P.S. Yesterday, I was sending a private message, and my computer froze, before I had a chance to send my message. The "Auto Save" feature worked great, by saving my message, after restarting my computer, which made me very happy, by me not having to remember and rewrite what I had written.

Let's see if I can't add in some advanced editor functionality into the basic one here and yes the auto-save is a life-saver... I was so thrilled to see that because over the many years I've been on forums, I have lost more posts than a Zombie movie loses survivors in the first thirty minutes!

Edit: Ohh and btw Gus the button hover colors are still the pink color you wanted , I thought that helped "offset" it per say.

Mke, you can disregard my previous requests. If members need more formatting options, they can click on the advanced options.

The pink rollover color looks nice.

The rollover color is nice, but I think the yellow may be a bit too light, esp with the white background. Maybe try a deeper yellow, or orange-yellow? e.g. FFCC00 or FFCC33

Thanks for mentioning that, rk. I was also thinking that this yellow looks a little washed out.

    Mike, let's try - FFCC33.
