    Default Making it hard for new members?

    Gus, I accidentally clicked on the "sign-up" link instead of "login", and was surprised by the captcha image that I was expected to decipher in order to sign up. No way will most people be able to get that right. If you've noticed a drop in new members signing up it's certainly due to that. You need to make it much, much, easier for new members to sign up.

    I don't see a Captcha image on the signup page. All I see is a pretty hard to decipher additional field question that reads:

    Additional Required Information (profile)
    Complete this sentence: [ ]
    This site is about what city in Florida?

    Do you see the question, a captahca image, or both?

    This is great timing for pointing this out, as we are in the process of revamping the signup process to make it easier.

    I'm thinking about using an easier question, with the answers choices in a drop down menu, something like this:

    What color is the sky:
    blue
    green
    red

    On the additional information question, I'd bet a lot of people will mistakenly answer "Miami" instead of "Miami Beach"

    Maybe you can set it up to accept either answer. ??

    rk, thanks for posting the screen shot. How strange - when I am logged into Facebook the Captcha does not display, but when I log in to FB, the Captcha appears.

    I agree the Captcha is almost impossible to decipher, and what is also unsettling is we're using the same method to post a comment in the blog.

    Glenn, great minds think alike. Back when I added the security questions with Mike, I asked him to allow both names to pass. Mike has since moved on to work full time at vBulletin, so we're going to need to fix usability issue on our own.

    It's important that we get this fixed quickly. I'll everyone posted.
